detection,
SOME OTHER NOTES:This camera was introduced in February of 2002. This is one of the lower priced game camera units on the market. Early models had very short battery life and the new "D" models use 8 batteries to increase the life. Buying 8 batteries every few weeks can get very expensive. 90 foot camera flash range will help see better on night photos. The date stamp of time or date but not both will leave you guessing when the animal was there.
USER COMMENTS:
I want to change my comments so that the users of your site are not drawninto this camera by my first observations, I guess time tells all. My first review was correct and was observed when I was buying a lot of cameras testing them. This was in a cooler time of the year. Once I finished going through 5 or 6 manufacturers over 3 months or so, I settled on this camera. I have used this camera extensively, in different situations and have decided I will not buy another one. Two other friends are sending theirs back too.
List of problems: 1) Date or time imprint does not show up on pictures, 2) detection is down to about 10 feet in 80 degree weather or sometimes will take a whole roll of nothing (cannot distinguish heat of air), 3) One unit went dead for no apparent reason and they do not make it a habit to repair these, they just replace them, 4) battery life is shorter than 21 days, so therefore you are replacing 8 c-cell batteries every two weeks or so, 5) self rewind never seemed to fully rewind on any of the four camera I had, so many pictures were exposed. This camera has potential because of 90' flash and excellent picture quality, but if they do not take care of their many downfalls, you can forget it, don't waste your time. Kenny in LA.
I've been using this camera for several months. It took about 6 rolls of film to figure out a few tricks like how high to mount the camera and how much to tilt in forward, and to not have it facing east or west where it can get hit by the sun, but since then it's been pretty dependable and taken some good quality pics.
I've heard a lot of complaints about short battery life, and the time/date stamp not showing up on photos. I replaced the lithium battery in the camera and now the time/date stamp shows up perfectly. I've been getting about 4 weeks of use out of the 8 C cells that power the unit. I've never had any problems with the unit, but I'm not convinced it's all that solid. There's too much plastic in important areas for my liking, such as in the film door, battery compartments, hinges, film compartment, etc. From more than 15 feet away I can't see the small green light that you use to test the detection area.
The low price was the biggest reason I bought this camera. I have friends with more expensive cameras with autofocus, and while autofocus is a nice feature, they have plenty of complaints about their cameras. I'm glad I didn't spend more money on any camera. I've been happy with the quality of my photos, especially when I use my scanner to clean them up. I won't give this camera a strong recommendation, but I would buy another one (and save my money for batteries, film, and developing) unless I moved up to a digital camera. - Dave in Northern Minnesota.
I have a Stealth Cam Model MC1-D and can describe it in one word. JUNK! I
had really high expectations for this unit with it's date stamp and extended
range flash. I shopped around and the price seemed very reasonable. Well the
old saying "You get what you pay for" holds true in this case. The
camera has taken several rolls of film with no animals. I have been very careful
in setting up this camera as far as keeping it away from branches, brush,
grass or any other objects that could heat up and false trigger the unit.
I went so far as to put tape on the outside edges of the sensor to reduce
the field of view and still had the same results. I was so convinced it was
false tripping that I conducted a controlled experiment. I turned the unit
on and put it in a looked cabinet. The cabinet was indoors in November in
northern Minnesota so there were no bugs or any other critters that could
trigger the unit. After 4 days I took the unit out and it had taken 9 pictures.
My feeling on this unit is that it is a scam that should be reported to the
better buisness bureau! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I sent the unit back
for repair over 3 weeks ago and still have heard nothing back. When I talked
to them originally about sending the unit back they really pushed to have
me send it back to them instead of Cabela's where I purchased it. I wonder
why? Could it be they don't want Cable's catching wind of a bogus product
and pulling it out of their catalog? I have 2 friends with these units and
they have had poor results as well. The date stamp would not show on one of
their units as
well - Sincerely, Pissed Off.
I sent mine back after two rolls of film. All pictures came out crisp and
clear, problem was all 23 our of 24 on first roll were of nothing and the
time stamp didn't show up either. One doe at night and it was a nice picture.
Second roll of film I manually rewound after 14 exposures, 7 were of nothing,
2 cows and 5 deer pics. All picture quality was excellent, but some of the
deer pics were way off, this cam is just to sensitive. A little
more improvement on the PIR and battery life and it will be a first rate deercam,
if they can get there, till then I'm trying another brand. - Kevin in Oklahoma

USER COMMENTS:
7/8/02 .I purchased the camera one month ago at Cabela's in Michigan and think it's great. I also enjoy your site. THANKS! - Bob K.
I had to use two six volt lantern batteries hooked together in series in order to use up 24 exposure film ! The standard four C cell batteries would not last but about 24 to 36 hours! - Richard H.
I bought one of these cams last year(DEC. 2001) I had it out until it quit working three weeks, it took good clear pictures, when it worked, however, it took very little motion to set it off( got lots of pictures of nothing) seems to monitor too much of an area! Also, it would need new batteries every 4 days, (the battery low light, would come on after just 2 days). As soon as the weather got cold, (low 30's), it quit working all together. The event counter would read 30-40-50- events (I was using ISO 200 speed film in 36 exp.) so I would go to remove the film only to find it did not rewind, thus ruin the roll! I contacted the company, they said to send it back to them with a brief description of problem! I did and did not hear from them for almost 4 weeks, so I called them again, only to find they forgot to call me with what they found! Nothing, but said they would send me a new camera, and even up grade me to there better model, due to there mistake! So great, right, wrong!! 2 week later, I have to call them back because they forgot to send me my new camera! So, they tell me the reason is that they are on back order, but will have one sent to me by the end of the week! 4 days later I get a package from them, only they sent me the wrong camera, so I call and they tell me to send back and when they receive it, they will send me the right one! which they did.
When I got it, I sold it, done playing with there products! The experience with this camera company was not as bad as it could have been, as they were very polite and understanding, and tried to please me the best they could, seems like they are a new company and have many bugs to work out! I believe there camera monitors too big an area, which drains the batteries too fast!! The pictures were clear, even at night! It never got wet, even after being out in the rain for several days! Did not seem to like cold weather at all though, would take pictures of falling snow or leaves too!! too sensitive! I f they could get better battery life and a better sensor it would be a great cam. Everything on this cam is user friendly! Also, you can only chose between date or time on the picture, and it did not work all the time, if you could have both, and have it work it would be a better unit! I also had to pay the shipping to send this cam back , and the wrong one they sent me! Sorry about being long but so many things happened with this cam I kept remembering them as I wrote! - STAN.
I have this camera, and I too have had the problems of: pictures of nothing, ruined film, batteries falling short. I have tried to contact the company, but they have moved to Bedford Texas, and I have not been able to find a phone number for them or an address. I bought this camera directly from them when they were in Grand Prarie, but have not been able to locate them since. I would appreciate your help in locating a number or address. Thanks. - Darryle C.

USER COMMENTS:
My wife got me one of these units for fathers day. Mixed review tho. I wasted 2 two rolls of film, because the camera will not advance the film. The serated, notched rotater thing would not work, but the spindle would turn. I had to push a little manual button, that would advance the film. Then I would wait to activate it by hand to make shure it was taking a picture to hear it advance. Got to be a pain in the a$$. I did get one roll through and got the picture's back yesterday. The picture quality I thought was excellant. Three pictures had nothing, a couple pictures were only half of a deer, walking passed the camera(must have been a delay) and one or two only had part of the time, inprinted. I tried a fourth roll, but could never get the film to advance. So I have taken it down and is going back to Dick's($69). The manual, electric film advance button does not work now. I'm not sure if I'm going to get another of the same model or get something different. By the way, here in our part of Ohio we have had about 15 inches of rain in weeks and 60 mph winds, to wit the inside of the unit was BONE DRY. If there wasn't any film advance problems, I would still be very pleased with. Hope this helps.
I have purchased three types of cameras, Moultree Game Cam II, the Game Country Night Hawk, and the Stealth Cam MC2-G. The Moultrie took good pictures for about a month, until the camera was ruined due to moister and insects getting into the camera. The Game Country is in no way sealed and allot of my pictures are not clear because of moister build up on the lends, but the camera is still working, (two months). The Stealth camera, I believe is the best buy if you are looking for something cheap and some what dependable. I read some of the reviews on your web page about the Stealth camera but I have not experienced any of the problems, but I have only taken on roll of pictures. The camera seems to be sealed very well, it survived very hard rains in south Georgia and no moister of water in the camera and no pictures of lightning. I have also sent a picture of a buck that was captured with the Stealth Camera feeding. I feel it is a good buy for the money. Also I was advised that Wal-Mart is removing the Moultrie Game Cam II from their shelves due to unreliability, at least in Orange Park, Fl. - Michael.
Bought the Stealth Cam model MC2-G about two months ago. Have had great success with it in the heat of southwest Louisiana. It took a little time to get the camera mounted correctly, it helps if you follow the directions. Wish that it would give date and time stamp but I am able to check it daily (it is in my front yard). I had tried the low end Moultrie cam but both of them leaked so bad that there was a puddle of water in the box and the battery was starting to rust. - Robert.
The camera took a couple of nice pictures the first time I put it out but after I moved it the nightmare began. I baited an area and had massive animal sign and showed seven pictures on the LED. Well I took them for development and the roll was blank. Thinking I may have not closed the cover properly I tried it again but made sure everything was perfect. Well its my second roll of film blank. It takes me 2 hours of driving to get to my land and its a major hike into the thicket. The second time it shown 7 pictures also very odd. I should have known not to buy the cheapest thing on the market. I am going to try the Leaf River next, it used the Canon Owl not some integrated camera. I would stay away from integrated camera units like the plague. I think the tractor feed may be broken or just such a poor design that it wont advance the film. Instead of a tooth for every notch in the film it picks it up about every 4th or 5th notch. Buying this camera will be a gamble at best. If you have more time than money this is the camera for you. - key0868.
I recently bought a Stealth Cam MC2-G.I am very pleased with it.I have finished 4 rolls of film on the same 8 AA batteries and they are still working. Very few pics of nothing, maybe 8 out of almost 100. Only complaint is that there is no way to lock it to a tree with a cable or chain. I made a meatal box for mine and it works great that way. For $89 I would definitely buy another.- Dave.
I have had my MC2 G since May 2003 the first roll was great good day and night pics lot of does and some nice bucks and a few coons. The 2nd roll had some trouble with night pics so I replaced the battery with a name brand problem solved its worked great ever since. I have found out that if you set it up in the mid AM or the early to late afternoon the test mode works the best. I use the time stamp because if you can target the repeat times you dont know the day they show but you know the time to be looking for them to show up and to me thats better than nothing. PS, Ithink they do a great job and for the price. I picked up another MC2 G so far so good. - GH from NC
