    Default Caping a head

I am not a Taxidermy but I do cape my animal heads when I decide when I want to get them mounted. I have done 5 now and I had a few questions for you experts. While caping a whitetail buck I did't have a lot of room to cut the cape from around the horns. The width was small between the horns, not leaving me much room with my knife. I tried the screw driver method and just did't like how it worked, I was afraid I was going to rip the cape. Is there a certain type of knife that Taxidermy prefer to use around the horns.

Yes, a scalpel. You can now purchase replaceable scalpel type knives from a few different companies such as Havalon https://www.havalon.com/

I use their Piranta. However, it can take some time to learn how to use such a tool, as you do not use it forcefully, but rather a gentle touch goes a long long way.

I used an outdoor knife with replacement blades. very sharp. Just a little on the big size. You are right on the gentle touch with a sharp blade. Thanks for the info I will take a look at the web sight you posted.
