Earthmate is an easy-to-use receiver that uses the Global Positioning System (GPS). Earthmate comes with Street Atlas USA 6.0 to show your location on street-level maps. Or, you can get Earthmate with DeLorme Topo USA, a topographic mapping software for the entire United States. You can use Earthmate and Street Atlas USA 6.0 with a multimedia laptop, and you can hear spoken directions and upcoming exit service information as you drive!
With portable IBM-compatible computers, Earthmate works with Street Atlas USA 6.0 and Topo USA. With handheld computers, Earthmate works with Solus Pro, which you can order from their on-line Map Store. An additional cable is required from DeLorme to connect Earthmate to your handheld computer. Features:
- Receiver: 12 channel GPS L1 C/A code
- Cold-start time to first fix (with valid almanac): ~3 minutes at 25ºC
- Warm-start time to first fix (initialize time and position): ~1 minute at 25ºC
- Temperature range: -10ºC to +60ºC
- Weight (with batteries): 9.5 oz.
- Battery Life: ~15 hours under normal operating conditions. There is no power switch on the DeLorme GPS Receiver. Power is only on while you are tracking within a DeLorme program. Once you stop tracking your position, Earthmate automatically stops drawing
- Power source: 4 AAA batteries or the optional Keyboard Port Adapter Cable or the Cigarette Lighter Adapter Cable
- Computer required: A PC with 486/66mHz or higher processor 8MB RAM, 30MB hard drive space, CD-ROM drive mouse and Windows 95.
- Compatibility: Earthmate is not compatible with other GPS. Topo USA 2.0 has detailed topographic maps of the entire US. Plus, you can download the new application for using topographic maps on popular handheld computers. Use Topo USA 2.0 and the Earthmat
Other InformationEarthmate shows your position on the map and moves with you as you travel. Earthmate also provides your speed, direction of travel, elevation and latitude and longitude and updates these values and your position every two seconds.
If you own a handheld computer you can connect Earthmate to your handheld PC with the Palm Computing Adapter Cable or the Windows CE Adapter Cable available from DeLorme. Then you can use the handheld PC mapping application, Solus Pro, to download street maps and routing directions from Street Atlas USA 6.0 or from Delorme's online server.
