This upper level GPS was introduced in the 4rth quarter or 2001. The features the Meridian Platinum has that the plain Meridian doesn't are the 16 megs of onboard basemap instead of 2 megs. This GPS unit also floats. The addition of the electronic compass is a really helpful feature which allows you to take a direction reading while standing still, most of the other GPS units require you to be walking at a brisk pace to give a compass heading reading. This unit has a WAAS capable receiver which allows for better accuracy.
