This unit was released in February 1999. The GPS 315 is basically the same unit as the GPS 320. Several software bugs have been reported in this unit, software versions 1.03 to 2.02. One bug concerns the list of "large cities" sorted by "nearest" is erroneous, showing cities from several hundred or thousand miles away. A suggested fix for this bug is to buy the $40.00 POI (Points of Interest) CD-ROM and reloading the default location database. Another bug is the unit is unable to do zoom in or out while in the "Pan and Scan" mode. Customer service has been fair in the past with Magellan, but they are concentrating more on the consumer market and hopefully service will improve in the near future.
Magellan also offers a M-315A that has airport data (Jeppsen data).

User CommentsI have the Magellan 315 and love it. Since the govt. removed the restrictions, accuracy is usually betwee 3-6 feet. I feel like i got a whole new GPS. This model will serve you well from driving the highways to getting far into the mountains while hunting. HAASO
Here's another endorsement for the Magellan 315. I got mine last September and used it on a trip to Northern Maine last November. It ALWAYS locked on, no matter what kind of cover I was under. It did take longer to lock the thicker the trees were, but never more than 45secs to 1 min. I can't wait to try it now that the SA is off! It has lots of options for personalizing the screens and can be downloaded with info from a computer. I love it. Good luck. Shaun.
