The altimeter is handy to help in pinpointing your fix on a map, as the elevation reading in the GPS system in very inaccurate even in the 3-D mode. You can read about how the altimeter helps the accuracy in the review below. This unit was released in the fall of 2000. Customer service has been fair in the past with Magellan, but they are concentrating more on the consumer market and hopefully service will improve in the near future.
