The 4000XL is an upgrade from the plain 4000. The 4000 had a 2 channel receiver. The 4000XL is no longer being made as of January 1998, but some suppliers still have them in their warehouse. The 2000XL is basically the same as the 4000XL and is still available. If you have a plain 4000 you can contact Magellan and see if they will upgrade it to a 4000XL model. I did this with my 4000 model and it cost me $69.99 for a remanufactured 4000XL with a 90 day warranty. Magellan also offered to upgrade my 4000 model to a TRACKER model for $199.00 which would have saved me $30.00 with a full 1 year warranty. Customer service has been fair in the past with Magellan, but they are concentrating more on the consumer market and hopefully service will improve in the near future. Repair rates are a flat $175.00.
