The Garmin 12 Map was released in November 1999. The 12 Map is a higher priced GPS with mapping capability. The new Garmin 12 Map offers cartographic capabilities formerly found only in high-end automotive navigation and marine chartplotting units. You can simply connect it to a PC and download data from Garmin's line of MapSource CD-ROM's to get detailed maps right on the screen! Choose the "US Roads and Recreation" CD for city street level detail and even inland marine features such as lake and river shore lines, boat ramp and marina locations. The "Worldmap" CD gives you worldwide coverage of coastlines, including a database of coastal cities, navaids and inland roads. Even without the additional CD-ROM cartography, the built-in basemap is more detailed than ever before. It features airport locations, secondary roads in metro areas, and even detailed exit information for the federal interstate highway system.
