Released in October 1997. You can upgrade the built-in software yourself free of charge from Garmin's website from version 2.04 to 2.05. You will need the PC interface cable to do this. The outline map can be zoomed from 500 miles to 120 feet. You can use this unit as a handheld GPS (vertical) or mount it in your car (horizontal) as a mobile GPS. A hunting buddy of mine has this GPS and it's a breeze to operate. Use it on your dash, then take it off, swap the display, and you're off to the forest. Customer service is excellent with replacement and no questions asked the norm.
