I have always had trouble with most owl calls, as I don't get a lot of realism without a lot of effort. Maybe that's just me. But the "Hoot Flute" gave me real good sound with almost no effort.
I've said before that if you just want to locate birds, slam the door when you get out of the truck. But for those who prefer a more realistic and natural call, this is probably a god bet. The only thing I didn't care much for was the size...almost as big as a soda can. Since I don't use a locator all that much, it shouldn't take up that much space in my pack.
The only other downside I could find was that I didn't get a lot of volume out of it. It sounds real enough, but I don't know how far that hooting will carry... especially in the canyons and draws of the CA turkey woods.
