I wanted a Digial Camera I could leave in the woods for a long period of time and not have to worry about the Memory card getting full or having to run back out anf replace the battery's. This is my 3rd Digatal camera and for the PRICE the best by far, in fact I have sold the other 2 and bought me another one of these. I put this camera up at a Feeder in July 2004, and added the solar panel, and a 256mb Memory Card. I went back in the middle of Sept to check things out, and was delighted that the camera still had a FULL CHARGE and had taken 1050 pictures, and still had some room to take more. Since then its a GREAT Feeder camera, seems to be a lil SLOW as a trail Camera but then again the other 2 I had prior to this camera also were terrible trail camera.. Here are some latest pic's a few of them I zoomed in on the picture to bring out the horns, aswell there are on low-res so I can get the most out of my memory card. http://www.ttffl.com/pictures/deer/DECBUCK/

256MB MAXIMUM MEMORY, battery life, slow wake time

This camera takes great pictures on high or medium setting. Only problem is that the batteries die in 4 to 5 days. You will get 250 to 400 pictures though. I have recently hooked up a 12v 9Ah sealed lead acid battery through the solar port that will give the rechargable batteries a trickle of power to draw from. Not suppose to work but does.(still testing and will update progress) This should keep the batteries charged for weeks. I have tried the solar panel and it has not done the job. The only downside now is that the camera only accepts up to a 256Mb flash card. I now have more battery time than memory. I set it on medium which takes 1024x768 size pictures(which will give me 1200+ pictures) versus high which takes 1280x1024. I do not recommend low setting(640x480). I really like Stealth cameras and recommend them but wish they had more memory capacity and better battery options like using 4D size batteries.

Battery life in cold climates

Do not buy this particular model if you plan to use it in temps around or below 25 dgrees. I had 2 units and just sent the scond one back to GSM for a replacement. They are sending a new model with a 12V battery pack to replace my original unit. They are aware of the temperature limitations...the camera also lost my images after batteries died, they said they were also aware of that problem. The customer service has been mixed, finally convinced the General Manager to replace my camera.

Slow response time, short battery life, poor quality for $
I had nothing but trouble with mine. My first 30 pics had nothing in them because of the slow response time (8-9 seconds). It went through 6 AA batteries in about 4 days. There is no way to review pics in the field without shelling out more $ for a viewer. Something shorted out in mine and the LCD went crazy. The company was quick to replace it and I was quick to unload the new camera on eBay. I would definately NOT recommend this gamecam.

Buyer Beware - internal lithium battery failure
As of 8-10-05, All of the GSM Stealth Cams have an internal lithium (watch) battery that holds the date/time. The user cannot replace this battery: the entire unit must be sent to GSM for replacement. If the user breaks the seal, the 1 yr warranty is void. GSM will not accept any units for repair after 1 yr (not even if you're willing to pay for the repair). GSM will not give any instructions for battery replacement either (ie. will I run into heavy glues or epoxy if I attempt to replace this battery?). My unit arrived new from Cabelas with a dead lithium, now I pay for all the shipping to/from GSM for battery replacement. Battery is supposed to last for up to 2 yrs. Either way, be prepared to crack the case on your own at some point in time. Also 4-6 second wake-up time on this unit, so it's lousy for a trail situation. Sending letter to Cabelas marketing group for a "buyer beware" request for future product disclosure on the lithium situation and the inability to pay for repairs after 1 yr warranty. Call GSM or Cabelas and ask about the lithium battery. Can anyone out there recommend a reasonably priced digital unit that has a quick wake-up time and holds up to cold weather? Photo quality less important than knowing what's coming and going. Thanks, Pete. port42@localnet.com
