Description:

This is Marlin's bread and butter lever action rifle, chambered in the venerable 30-30, the "brush bustin'".35 Rem. and the new 308 Marlin. There are several levels of finish, but all differences are mostly cosmetic, with all models sharing the same proven action, 20 inch micro-groove barrel and open sights. The 336SS is Marlin's stainless steel offering, and makes this simple, easy to clean rifle even more low maintenance. There is also a factory mounted and boresighted 3-9X32 scope available as an option on the 336W model.
When tested, I found the Marlin 336a I bought to be simple and easy to operate. After reading the owners manual, I found all functions to be very intuitive. The action quickly breaks in to become ultra smooth and easy to work. The owners manual does not prescribe any set barrel break in, but I found that it took firing at least 70 rounds before the barrel began to get really accurate and deliver good groups. With my inexperience using open sights and having been away from rifles for two years, I was still able to get consistent 2-3 inch groups @ 50 yrds. Another Marlin customer, shooting a broken in, scoped marlin 336 in 30-30 was easily shooting 1 inch groups @ 50 yrds. Fine performance for a "no-frills" deer rifle. With the new Hornady Leverevolution rounds, this easy handling little rifle becomes a full fledged 200 yrd. deer rifle with no modification.
