I hunted with Bloubank Safari's in July of 2007. Japie was our professional hunter and did a great job of putting us on animals. Even with a full moon and a front moving through, we were able to take some trophy animals throughout our stay. Japie cooked fresh backstrap for us several nights which was excellent. We did most of the cooking, so we didn't incure a catering cost.
We were primarily looking for Kudu, and I was able to take one that measured 54 1/2" in the field. I was also able to take a trophy Blue Wildebeest along with two nice impala, including one with my bow. We were on a short visit, so for this particular hunt, Japie allowed us to use a rifle in some cases, but this is primarily a bowhunting ranch. Lots of animals were spotted during the stay.
Upon leaving we learned that they were combining with other ranches to increase the size of the property from 6500 acres up to 21,000 acres. They will also be adding elephant and lion in the future. The Drakensburg mountains made for a beautiful backdrop and the facilities were good.
We stayed in a tented safari while there, but had the option of staying at the lodge. They had also recently built a brand new lodge on the property which we were able to use the kitchen. It will be a super nice facility once completed.
Isaac, the main tracker and skinner, was a great help. We were also able to meet some of the owners while there. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. It was the best part of my trip to South Africa.
