Description: Specifications:

Basemap: The GPS 76 provides 1 megabyte of internal user memory to be used for storing downloaded Points of Interest data. This 1 megabyte of storage area is preloaded from the factory with worldwide cities (populations greater than 200,000) and nautical navigation aids such as lights, buoys, sound signals and day beacons, and is perfect for downloading points of interest detail from GARMIN’s line of MapSource CD-ROMs. The GPS 76 is also preloaded with tide data for the United States.

Map Scale: Each 8 megabyte map section covers about 15,000 square miles. Screen-width scale 500 feet to 2,000 miles.

Receiver: Differential-ready 12 parallel channel receiver continuously tracks and uses up to twelve satellites to compute and update a position. WAAS enabled.

Acquisition Times: Warm: approx. 15 seconds Cold: approx. 45 seconds, Autolocate®: approx. 5 minutes. EZinit®: easy initialization, 45 seconds.

Update Rate: 1 second, continuous.

Accuracy: Position: 100 meters with SA, 15 meters (49 feet) without SA. Velocity: 0.05 meter/sec steady state. 1-5 meters (3-15 feet) with DGPS receiver (optional). WAAS enabled. DGPS (WAAS) accuracy: Position: < 3 meters, 95% typical.

Velocity: 0.1 knot RMS steady state. DGPS (WAAS) Velocity: 0.05 meter/sec steady state.

Dynamics: 6 g's.

Interfaces: RS232 with NMEA 0183, RTCM 104 DGPS data format and proprietary GARMIN. The following programs are compatible with Garmin's data-transfer protocol: MapSource 3.0x, Street Atlas 8, National Geographic Topo!, Fugawi, MacGPS Pro, Ozi Explorer, G7ToWin, GARTrip, GPS Utility, and TrackMaker Ver. 10.

Antenna: built-in quad helix antenna for superior reception and can provide position accuracy to less than three meters when receiving WAAS corrections. MCX antenna connection for external antenna.

Case: Fully gasketed, high impact plastic alloy.

Display: 1.6" W x 2.2" H, 180x240 pixels. FSTN with bright backlighting. An innovative rocker switch on the front of the unit lets you pan quickly and accurately or select and enter functions. Keys have backlite. Large number option for easy viewing.

Menu Screens: Main menu screens: 1) Trip Computer 2) Navigation 3) Find 4) Accessories 5) Map 6) Setup Info. 7) System. 8) Satellite. Satellite screen shows usual map of satellites in view, signal-strength bars, present-position coordinates, and a unique indicator of the direction the GPS is pointing, or above a selectable speed limit, the direction the GPS is moving. Compass screen shows your direction of movement and points to next waypoint when you are routing or have an active GoTo.

Calendar: No.

Memory: Indefinite; no memory battery required.

Power Source: 2 AA batteries. This unit has the original , Garmn 12XL, III , round power/data jack, and although it contains just two batteries, it will accept 8-35vdc.

Trip computer: Trip Odometer, Moving time, Stopped time, Total Distance Traveled, Max Speed, Current Speed, Moving Average Speed, Overall average speed, Total trip time, Time of Day, Current Destination, Current Distance to go, ETA, ETE, Elevation, Final Destination, Final Distance to go, Final ETA, Final ETE, Heading, Bearing to next, Cross Track Error (off course), Course to Steer (CTS), Turn (TRN), VMG, Sunrise/Sunset times. Any of the above may be selected for display on the Trip Computer page.

Map Datums: over 100. The default datum is WGS 84 (World Geodetic Survey 1984). Make sure you set the datum to match the map datum of the map you are using. The map datum is usually listed in the title block of the map. If no datum is given, use the datum that gives the best positioning at a known point.

Moon (Lunar) Data: Yes. Sun and Moon predictor, Calculator, and "Best time to hunt and fish".

Electronic compass: No.

Barometric altimeter: No.

Coordinate Grids: Lat/Lon, UTM/UPS, MGRS, Maidenhead; or regional British, Irish, German, New Zealand, Swedish, Swiss, Taiwan,and West Malaysian.
