Basemap: Built-in Americas (covers lakes, rivers, interstates, national/state highways, secondary roads in metro areas, cities, railroads, airports and a detailed exit database for the Federal Highway system). User map memory is eight megabytes of downloaded CD-ROM information at a time, depending on the size of the cartridge you use in the unit, programmable from MapSource MetroGuide, WorldMap, USA Topo, and Roads and Recreation CD-ROMs. America's Highway 2.0 basemap, Atlantic basemap, Pacific basemap. Accepts downloads from GARMIN's Mapsource® product line, including Fishing Hot Spots®.

Map Scale: Each 8 megabyte map section covers about 15,000 square miles. Screen-width scale 500 feet to 2,000 miles.


Receiver: Differential-ready 12 parallel channel receiver continuously tracks and uses up to twelve satellites to compute and update a position.


Acquisition Times: Warm: approx. 15 seconds Cold: approx. 45 seconds, Autolocate®: approx. 5 minutes. EZinit®: easy initialization, 45 seconds.

Screen illumination timeout has 15, 30, 60, 120, and "always on" timeout settings. An innovative rocker switch on the front of the unit lets you pan quickly and accurately or select and enter functions. Keys have no backlite.

Menu Screens: Main menu screens: 1) Trip Computer 2) Navigation 3) Find 4) Accessories 5) Map 6) Setup Info. 7) System. 8) Satellite. Satellite screen shows usual map of satellites in view, signal-strength bars, present-position coordinates, and a unique indicator of the direction the GPS is pointing, or above a selectable speed limit, the direction the GPS is moving. Compass screen shows your direction of movement and points to next waypoint when you are routing or have an active GoTo.


Calendar: Yes, (built in) allows user to add notes.


Memory: Indefinite; no memory battery required.

Power Source: 2 AA batteries. External power should be regulated at 3.15volts /- .15 vdc according to Garmin. There is no power/data cable available yet, only a PC data transfer cable. The power/data connector is a new one, different from all the other Garmin connectors used before. Gee, thanks Garmin.

Any of the above may be selected for display on the Trip Computer page.


Map Datums: over 100. The default datum is WGS 84 (World Geodetic Survey 1984). Make sure you set the datum to match the map datum of the map you are using. The map datum is usually listed in the title block of the map. If no datum is given, use the datum that gives the best positioning at a known point.


Moon (Lunar) Data: Yes. Sun and Moon predictor, Calculator, and "Best time to hunt and fish".

Electronic compass: No.

Barometric altimeter: No.


Coordinate Grids: Lat/Lon, UTM/UPS, MGRS, Maidenhead; or regional British, Irish, German, New Zealand, Swedish, Swiss, Taiwan,and West Malaysian.
