Quake Industries Sling

I've searched high and low for a good rifle and shotgun sling , one that wouldn't slip off my shoulder if I bent forward a little. After dropping my rifle and scope one too many times I was getting desperate. I had used the old leather slings, neoprene, the Butler Creek and Uncle Mike's slings but they still didn't work very good. I even sewed huge wooden buttons on my shirts and coats to try and stop the sling from slipping off my shoulder. All that got was weird looks from other hunters.

Finally the hunting gods smiled down on me the day I saw a Quake Industries Claw sling . I slipped it over my shoulder and bent over and it didn't even budge, it grabbed on just like a scared cat. Perfect. They even had a camo model.

The sling come with 2 Hush Stalker II swivels which are the best swivels out there for safety and quietness (see below info). The sling also comes in 5 different colors.

I also found one other sling item I had been searching for that same day. I hate squeaky sling swivels and I had been using Butler Creek's little rubber swivel do-hickeys that you slide over the swivel stud to quiet my swivels, but they were a pain in the butt to put on and clean around and they didn't hold up well to my abuse in the field.

My quest had lead to the Quake Industries Hush Stalker II Swivels. These swivels eliminate the squeak between studs and swivels by using DuPont® Delrin to do away with noise. Stronger than conventional quick-detach swivels and light. The weather-impervious Hush Stalker won't mar your favorite stock. Cross bolts are Teflon®-treated steel seated into counter-bored recesses with O-rings that prevent loosening. Made in USA. Sizes: 1" or 1-1/4" . $5.99 each at http://www.cabelas.com/

Please make sure you use a swivel that has a screw in retainer. The older push in swivels are notorious for getting pushed in while on your back and then allowing the swivel to come loose, resulting in a nasty fall for your rifle or shotgun and a possible accidental discharge of the gun if it's loaded.

Pros: nonslip - quiet - OK to get wet
Cons: camo not great

I got a Claw sling after seeing Jesse's review a few years ago. I really like the sling but don't care for their color selections that much. The desert tan color is too light for my taste. The green camo is better but still not ideal (though it didn't seem to bother the turkey too much).

Unlike Jesse, I prefer the push-button sling swivels. When I sit down to wait out a turkey I want the sling off the forend of the gun, if not all the way off. The screw-in models just take to long to remove.
