New - North LA County + 3 juniors
Hi,
New to hunting overall, and have myself and 3 juniors (10, 12 and 14) hoping to start learning.
We all have our hunter safety completed, and are starting to look for "first time out" posiblities...
anyway, hopefully will be a worthwhile contributor over time. For the meanwhile, will be posting plently of questions over in the CA hunting forum.
thanks,
Paul

Hi PM,
You might want to check out Wilderness Unlimited a private club that leases ranch's in Cal and Oregon. They have 2 ranch's in Teachappi that have deer and pigs and two ranch's in Caliente not to far from you that have deer, bear and soon pigs. With 3 kids it should work out cost wise. There is the Kern National Refuge near Delano that can have good duck hunting but its not easy to get a reservation. Put a ressie card in for you and each one of your boys. Arizona has good deals on jr deer and elk hunts but be careful in filling out the applications they apparently can be trickey. There is another club called the Fin and Feather club in Lancaster that has fishing and waterfowl opportunities.
Have Fun;

If you want to travel a bit!?
My sons are always looking to take juniors duck hunting. They get special days and areas up here in central Ca.(near Fresno). I like to think I taught them well, but they just love the marsh. I thought they were giving back, but they can't stay away. Also check out the junior and family hunts offered by Ca.DFG these are great becuase you will see birds.
Best wishes for a great first season, Brett brtfos@aol.com

Thanks !
Thanks all for the welcome's and advice. :)
We missed the hog clinic up at Tejon, but are in line for a number of the Junior hunts. My 10yr old broke his arm yesterday so we're down one for 6 weeks or so, but its still early in the year. I'm seeing at 10 years old in CA he really doesnt have many options to hunt anyway (12 and up ??)..
There are a number of DFG hunts up in "Canada de los Osos" that I'm applying for them. Also the Sage grouse hunts were just recently posted, so we might check that out too. Also a Jr Apprentice hunt at Tejon in the Winter.
Brett, I'll send you an email and thanks in advance.
Paul and sons...

Welcome
It's always nice to see an adult introduce boys to the shooting and hunting sports. Have fun and be careful.

Hey, Paul welcome to Jesse's I live in Lancaster I also have a 13 yr old son who is very involed with hunting. I would like to remind ya that DFG do offer pheasant hunts through the Heritage Game hunts they hold them throughout the state, I volenteer mt dog handling skills to the one they hold in Peace Valley along with my Good friends from the Santa Clarita Chapter Quail Unlimited. Well if intersted in that kind of hunting you can look it up on the DFG.Gov web site and you can also download the Apps. Happy hunting and see ya out there. Bryan

Hi Bryan... we're actually signed up for the 11/14 hunt there at Peace Valley. We have a conflict now that I am working on, but in either case, we should be there.
I have been able to take my oldest (14) hog hunting this past month and he did well (took one ~200 lbs).. been scouring the hills of D-11 close to home for deer with my 12yo, and so far its been a great exercise program, but no luck in the venison rewards program :)
Maybe I'll see you on the 14th out in peace valley, or PM me your info if you and your son would want to team up with me and mine etc.
thanks again for the note!
Paul
