Default Snow Goose Migration Report Mar 3, 2009, Mid Continent Flyway

Thanks Mike

Migration Report March 3rd, 2009

After some serious Snow Goose Hunting Action in the Mid
Continent Flyway last week, a rather large storm front
swept across Northern KS, NE, MO and IL sending thousands
of birds backwards.

The good news is that they didn't go north and the snow
goose hunting success will continue again shortly in that
region. Temps look to be very conducive to melting snow
over the next few days and the week that follows. Up north,
there have been a few sightings and reports of Snow Geese
cruising over Southern SD and Southern MN.

It's likely that these birds are not sticking around just
yet but typically the snows push as fast as they can and I
would expect to see IA and SD fill up with both geese and
snow goose hunters this week. With the prospect of high
numbers of juvenile birds, many hunters will be looking to
cash in.

The western edges of the Central Flyway are providing some
decent snow goose hunting opportunities right now however
bird numbers do remain scarce. CO is reporting a medium
amount of Snows but we haven't heard much out of WY yet.

As this weeks warming trend continues, I would expect to
hear about good hunting opportunities stretched out from AR
to SD and from IL, all the way over to CO and WY.

As far as the Atlantic Flyway, what can I say…..They're
pounding them!! Snow Goose Hunters that are in the
concentration are doing very well. Again this would be the
year to schedule a hunt out that way. PA is waiting for the
snow to clear but it shouldn't be long now.

Provided we don't get hit with another snow storm, we
should have a good steady migration north. The snow line is
very defined right now and that's something we haven't
experienced in a few years.

Good Luck!

For those of you that missed out on all or part of the 3
part article on Snow Goose Flyer Placement, I posted the
articles to the blog. I also wrote a Part 4 after receiving
some good feedback from other members. Part 4 is about
saving yourself some time and headaches when dealing with
your flyers in the field.

Saving time is very important and I'm always looking for
better methods or products to manage and deploy decoys. And
then I like to share with you the tricks I learn from others
or figure out on my own so that you also can have a better
hunt.

Thanks for you business and good hunting!

Yours in Decoying,

Mike C

Is the migration on-time, late, or early at this point? I know that a change in weather can quickly change the timing.
