What do you think about the Cabela winches. Trail Tamer by superwinch?
I don't want to save money by buying a Trail Tamer over a Warn if quality isn't there.

Bubba, I was asking the same question and then found a Warn 2.5 on ebay for the same price as the Cabelas winch. Forgot what I paid. No regrets. Fits and works like I would have expected. Ed F

I have a Ramsey 3000 on my Suzuki Vinson. Works great and doesnt really weigh down the front end as much as you would think. It has a remote control which i really like and the price is about the same as the warn winch. You have to buy the extra control for the warn winch I think.
I saw on the website where they now have a synthetic rope instead of steel cable rated to 3000lbs as well.

Thanks guys. My local ATV dealer gave me a good deal on the Warn 2.5 They'll install for free also.
I ride an 05' Polaris Sportsman 400. I thought it would be enough for me, but on recent ride going up a steep hill, it was bogging a bit. Do you think I would have the same problem with a 700 (due to steepness)...I might give the 400 to the wife and upgradede to the 700 or 800.

What was the deal you got on the winch?
I have a Honda 350 Rancher. The only time mine bogged down was when I was on a very steep jeep road at 9,000 ft. I wouldn't want to go on anything steeper. Maybe a bigger motor might get you ther faster.

bubba,
When it was bogging down, what was the altitude? I had my Polaris bog down one year in CO but that was due to the altitude. I have a Warn on my Sportsman 500 and have no complaints.

Could have been a jetting issue.
I've had a rancher 350 take me up some super steep but I had to be in second gear. Of course a prarie 660 just screams on up it without bogging down as would any 600+ class atv.
I've been on a 400 class foreman and they're a bit beefier than the Rancher but still would have to downshift to second or third (if higher rpms) going up the super steep.
I think I'll have to have lockers when I get one....those praries do go where most atv's won't and a lot of it has to do with the lockers....especially in snow/mud. Lockers are typically aftermarket but there are some atv's that come stock with them such as the prarie.

350 including taxs and install. Its was a promo winch for Polaris.
I think it was just HP on my ATV. It was steep, altitudue was about 2400 ft. No problem getting up, but there sure wasn't much left. It crawled up with no problem, just would have liked to have a little more, especially if I had it loaded with some game...
I am now thinking about putting a silencer on the muffler. Any experience with these? The one on Cabelas claims 50% reduction in noise and in some cases, dyno testing showed an increase in HP in mid range. But doing it more for less noise.
