Well,
Let me start off by saying what a neat site this is...I've always been interested in anything and everything to do with the outdoors and this is one aspect that Ive only been getting into more recently.

That being said on to my question...I have a couple of deer mounts that have seen better days for sure, they spent some time hanging in the garage and now...well their ears have split along the edges, and I was wondering if a taxidermist would be able to repair damage like this...how much it might cost and how long it might take. Being in So-Cal I dont hear of a lot of taxidermy buisnesses often so I'm not too sure of the best place to take it either.

I would attempt to fix it myself...but it would probably involve duct tape and I'm certain that isnt the way to do it.

Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
-Chris

PS. These are at least 20 + yrs old so I know that has to make a difference (I ass/u/me) haha.

You're better off starting with a new cape for those. They can be bought salted and then sent to the tannery, or else purchased already tanned and ready to mount. Prices for capes depend on neck size and quality. You can shop for them on ebay or else have a taxidermist search through his sources. http://www.breckdickinsontaxidermy.com/ if you plan on coming to the Imperial Valley to shoot doves, come by my shop and check it out.

I'll see if this pic works or helps you understand what it is Im dealing with...I was afraid that he might just need to be redone. This is hopefully a pic of the one Im most interested in salvaging mostly because of his size and character....was really something before the garage had its way with him. Any idea how much something like that will run on one his size?

I could probably find a tanned cape of that size for around $150 and then $465 to mount it.

Good to know...I'll definitely make sure to swing by next time Im out that way...I go out that way quite a bit for offroading in Ocotillo so next time I do I'll make a quick side trip. Thanks for the advice and the quote....I'd just hate to see these guys (especially the one pictured) go to nothing....sentimental reasons mostly.
