Good for you and CONGRADULATIONS, welcome to the woderful world of Greman Short Hair Poiters. I have a few myself and for me they are the most versitile hunting dog. I like the litter, who are they out of?
Awesome, welcome to the clud, sweetest little dogs!
They are out of a guy named Tim Rhodes in Slayton, MN. I got the pick of the litter and i chose the male. This is my first dog that i want to train extensivley for Pheasant. Any tips on doing so? How do i get him not to be gun shy when it comes time to train? I have heard start by shooting a .22 around him.
I forgot, i named him Decoy.
beautiful pup, and all the best for you both!
I just spent an entire season in MN. Hated like hell to come home, LB, Ca. But, I did, and regret it every minute!
It was absolutely awesome out there, I brought my Vizsla out with me by air, once October arrived, and she and I spent the entire season, lest, the last week, hitting pheasant. in particular around the Marshall area.
I was in MNPLS, working for NWA, and, again, wish I still were there!
I looked for Ruffs up around Mill Lacs, saw pheasant up there, saw pheasant around Owatonna, along with a lot of turkey and dove.
Found pheasant as close as 50miles from my home base while there. I saw deer, turkey, waterfowl galore, pheasant, HUNS, dove, coyote and met a couple of guys that invited me along their travels to try and chase down pheasant.
As soon as you get your pup home, get yourself a wild wing on a string, be it chukar, pheasant, hun, grouse, waterfowl, etc.
Tease the pup with it, and don't allow it to catch it, if you can. This will end up making the pup realize he can't catch it, and he'll go onto an amazing little pup POINT to be proud of.
Get yourself all the training aids you can afford, or, make the equivalent! i.e. check cords, training dummies, etc.
These items can amount to more than one thinks, if purchased thru the various sources available.
Your pup looks like it comes from Great stock, so, he'll show you immense natural ability. Work on the basic obedience training, go lightly, be patient, consistent, observant, diligent and all should work out just fine!
GSP's are a FINE breed, a proven breed over and over, you'll have yourself many a year and memory with this dog, so, again, be patient, don't expect more than can be expected, after all, you probably will need to learn much more than the pup will!
Carry a throw away camera with you at all times, because, the kodak moments are forever surprising, and as brief as a millisecond, so, be prepared, and share all that you take!
Can't wait to see the results!![]()
Cute pup. You are going to love your new puppy. I got mine 2 months ago and boy are they a hand full.
bbandit,
feel free to send me a email if you would like to talk more extensivley. There are a ton of great tips and aids to help you in your path of proper and correct training. There are also a lot of excellent trainers that are available to you. I suggest you develop a plan for this pup and see it through yourself. I can and will be able to help. I am currently training my 2 new pups that are 11 months old and have lots of stuff that would be benificial to you. It is more than just a blast, its training a part of your own family.
Beautiful pup, welcome to the wonderful world of gsp's they are awesome.
Enjoy

Oh Yea don't spoil your hunting dog!
I was in a condo in Orange County when I got mine as a birthday gift.
It was hard to find a place to run her.
So I sold the condo and moved out to S.B. County.
My wife is so cool, I guess thats part of why we're celebrating 12 years married.
