With Condit's wife turning up in Washington to confront Chandra I was theorizing Chandra was pregnant and went into hiding to later have the kid and ruin Condit. Looks like that theory is out now.
Let's see, for motive we've got Gary Condit who didn't want the affair out but he has an alibi. Gary Condit definately has the means and money to have Chandra 86ed. Mrs. Condit has one of the oldest motives for killing someone in history and she also has the money and meansto have her 86ed. I would think if she did it herself she would have confrotned her and it would have been a fight turned into a murder. Or she could be a very cold and cunning scorned wife who just called in a marker to make her disappear.
Any other Perry Masons want to venture some theories?
Chandra Levy's Remains Found
###
By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON -- Bones found in a Washington park today are the remains of Chandra Levy, the federal intern who disappeared more than a year ago, police announced today.
Police chief Charles H. Ramsey said the identification was made through dental records.
Levy's disappearance riveted the nation for months and contributed to the political demise of her hometown congressman, Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif.
Identification of the remains did not end the mystery of her death. Ramsey said the manner and cause were still unknown.
"The remains found earlier today are in fact Chandra Levy," Ramsey said. The remains were discovered in Washington's Rock Creek Park by a man walking his dog. "He was searching for turtles," Ramsey said.
Levy, 24, of Modesto, Calif., disappeared sometime after logging off her computer about 1 p.m. on May 1, 2001. When police searched her apartment they found her wallet, credit card, computer and cell phone. Only her keys were missing.
Police conducted intensive searches in the weeks following her disappearance but turned up no solid clues. They looked at a variety of theories-- murder, suicide or that Levy had gone into hiding or lost her memory.
They also questioned Condit several times. The 54-year-old, married lawmaker denied having anything to do with the disappearance but did eventually acknowledge an affair with her, a police source said.
Police repeatedly said Condit was not a suspect.
The police had found evidence last year on Levy's laptop computer that she had searched a Web site for the park's Klingle Mansion on the day she vanished.
The bones were found about a mile north of the mansion and about four miles away from Levy's apartment. Friends had said Levy frequented the 1,754-acre park, located in northwest Washington.
Levy came to Washington for an internship with the Bureau of Prisons and lived in an apartment. In late April 2001, her internship was abruptly cut short when supervisors learned she was ineligible to continue because she had finished her college coursework the previous December.
A sociable, earnest student who enjoyed travel abroad with her family and staying fit, Levy was last seen April 30 when she canceled her membership at a health club near her apartment.
She had been preparing to return to California for graduation from the University of Southern California and sent her parents, Dr. Robert and Susan Levy, an e-mail on May 1 noting airfares for the trip home.
The Levys called police five days later when they could not reach her, and her father also telephoned Condit asking for his help.
Condit called Levy a good friend and established a reward fund to help find her. In July, he reportedly told police he was having an affair, though publicly he never made such a disclosure, saying only they shared a close relationship.
Condit, abandoned by all but a few Democratic allies, lost the Democratic primary in March to former protege Dennis Cardoza, a state assemblyman.
Levy's mother had recalled her as a strong-willed and independent woman who enjoyed outdoor pursuits such as whitewater rafting and skiing.
At San Francisco State University, Levy studied journalism and worked as a reporter and sports editor at the Golden Gater, the twice-a-week student paper.
In September 2000, the Levys sent their daughter east for a paid internship in the public information office at Bureau of Prisons that would complete her master's degree in public administration from the University of Southern California. Levy hoped to combine her interests in public policy and the criminal justice system.
Within weeks of arriving, Levy and a friend visited Condit's office, where they had their photo snapped with the congressman. He also took them to the House gallery to watch him vote. Within months Levy told family members she was having an affair with Condit.
After her disappearance, police searched Condit's apartment with his consent and obtained a DNA sample from him. Condit submitted to a lie detector test arranged by his lawyer, who said the congressman was found to be truthful when denying any knowledge about what happened to Levy.
A grand jury has been reviewing Levy's disappearance and whether Condit or his aides obstructed the investigation. The grand jury subpoenaed documents from Condit last year.
I live in Mr. Gary Condits disrict. I think he had somebody wack her. His alibi, Was in a meeting with the Vice president of the US. ###Damm, it does not get much better than that.
For the parents, I am glad they found her body. At least they know she is dead and can go on in thier life. ###
Hey if it wasn't for Condit's involvement, nobody would even know about ms. Levey. She would just be one of the thousand's of missing persons no one ever hears about! Anyway here's my take on what happened . Condit wacked her in the lincoln bedroom, had Al Gore provide the alibi while slick willie had the CIA wet boys get rid of the body. Could make a good movie!
Condit, being the doofus that he is, tried to find some way of hiding his infidelity and he ended up looking like a murder suspect in the process. That kind of stupid behavior is enough for me to want him out of office (aside from his politics), but it was clearly exacerbated by the idiotic media circus.
Of note, DC police are questioning a man convicted of assaulting two women in the same park and about the same time that Ms. Levy had disappeared.
More importantly, this news has come out "just in time" to divert everyone's attention away from the war and the terrorist cells that are still hiding in our own nation, right before the Memorial Day weekend.

It wasn't the media that ruined Gary Con-did-it, it was his lack of integrity. ###If he was straight forward, he might still be in office. ###Thank God he is not.
Ditto what Bubba said. Condit is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. His being thrown out of office was due to his stonewalling when a worried family and police asked him to be honest and forthcoming with info. Condit wasn't very bright in stonewalling since he was a supposed saavy politician. He had to know that the spotlight was about to shine on his relationship with Chandra and it would have been exposed anyway. The American public is very forgiving and he could have just fessed up and asked for forgiveness and probably stayed in office with some good spinning by his handlers. Even Mayor Barry made it back from his fall. Clamming up just puts the reporters and public curiosity into overdrive.
Say it was a transient who mugged her, would they have taken the time to hide the body? This also would make Condit one of the unluckiest people in that year. What is the significance of the Mansion in the park where they found her body that she looked up on the Internet just before leaving her apatment?
Todays paper said there was some similarities to another murder of a woman and they might be the work of a serial rapists/killer.
For your science/biology whizzes. Can they determine if she was pregnant with just bones? I think I remember a murder case on TLC where they could by looking at the chemical balance in the bones or teeth. I may be wrong on this though. Anyone?
Also, this is not to trivialize her death. She was someone's daughter and friend and it is a tragic way to lose someone.
Agreed, in most cases. I do think Condit is the unluckiest person alive. I do agree that a lot of Condit's non re-election is his fault, but the media didn't help either.
I find it extremely strange how untold #'s of police and volunteers searched the park, and didn't come up with a body. Even after 2 days that body would have reeked enough that any trained dog would have found it.
One of the guys here at work provided a strange scenario... What if the body was just recently dumped there? What better way to divert full media attention just prior to this extended weekend, in which our country has been put on heigthened alert? I know, sounds pretty far fetched, but when you start thinking about it...
I believe (from watching TLC and Discovery) that they can determine pregnancy from lowered levels of something in the bones. This would definatly provide more ammo against Condit.
It's just funny how with all the searching, and evidence collecting the police did at all of Condit's places they didn't come up with something that would help incriminate him or his wife. It is possible that they have, and are staying tight lipped about it though.
I am greatly sorrowed for the Levy's, and my prayers go out to the family. The positive note(s) are that at least they can have some closure, and with a body, forensic tests may help find the killer.
### ### What if everyone's right. Condit's wife found out about the affair, and threatened to go public, Condit desided to have levy wacked. Condit went out and found some transiant and paid him to kill her. Wife gets scared that she might be next, so she shuts her pie hole and lets it go.
### ### Sometimes you have to wonder how these people can be so well educated yet so completely stupid. Clintion is a classic moron. He drags out all the crap with monica, only to get busted anyway. If he would have just stepped up and said I had an affair it would have been over alot sooner. The media had a field day with him. Condit thought he could hide his affair, to the same end as clintion. If somehow Condit didn't have a hand in Ms. Levy's death, he still deserves what ever he gets. The media is full of s**t most of the time, but I don't think they are responsible for what happened to Condit, he lied and he screwed himself.
While watching one of the T.V news shows, a reporter asked a M.E if it were possible to tell if Chandra was pregnant. The doctor said that if you were dealing with just skeletal remains and no tissue, pregnancy could not be determined.
I would have to believe that if she were pregnant, there would have been something at her apartment or a doctor’s office to substanciate it.
My view is that if it were a random killing the body would not have been placed in such a remote location. A pervert type killer would have just gotten out of Dodge and left her lying at the site of the killing. With that said, the area where her body was found apparently is not near a jogging path nor an area that she would have been walking so she must have been brought there.
She checked out that Mansion on the Internet because she was to meet someone there. I’m sure she wasn’t doing any sight seeing that day. By God, she was ready to leave the town and that wouldn’t make much scense since she had lived near the park for sometime.
I think Gary and his wife just joined the Ramsey’s and an ex football player with getting away with murder!
