I have a slightly retarded golden retriever. Over the course of the last year, i have taken 31 coons, all treed by my retriever.

He will tree the coon and then howl until I come out and take care of business.

I must live in the coon capital of Washington.

Hope you have a good coon recipe! I'd love to have a treeing "retrievound". Does he retrieve the dead coon?

As a matter of fact he does, problem being, they end up on my front porch. I've shot a few that were to big for him to drag home.

I had a similar experience growing up. My lab I had as a child would tree coon and feral cat, and even a bobcat, along the river bottoms where I grew up. Day or night, summer or winter, his nose and his instinct to pursue and tree game were amazing.

My hound hunting friends always thought I was lying until they saw him tree a feral cat one day in July in the middle of a starthistle patch; they wanted to breed their Walkers to him after that!

Count yourself fortunate to have such a unique dog.
