I was suppose to go deer hunting this weekend, but I came home with a BC instead.

    Here's the story.
I was out in D-14 hunting for deer. Didin't see one, but saw lots of signs. So my buddy suggested that we hunt for BC's instead. We go to a revene that looked pretty promising. We set up the caller, within 30 seconds I saw movement about 75 yards in the shadows behind a log. It poped out from behind a log, that's when I made a positive I.D. that is was a BC.. It stood there looking for the E-caller. It walked about another10 yards behind another log. I waited for about 15 seconds before he poped his head out from the second log. That's when it was in open ground. It was walking up to the caller slowly. I was waiting for him to get closer to me. That's when my buddy saw it and told me to shoot. I think the BC heard him because he stopped. I had the BC in in my sites hoping he would come closer. That's when my friend said a litter loder to shot him. That time the cat heard him and stood up for me to see his chest. That's when I pulled the trigger on my 17HMR. The cat stood up on his back legs, his front legs spread open wide and flipped back and let out one ugly scream and stopped moving. He was about 40 yards from where I shoot him.
My friend said if I wouldn't have shot it within a few second, he was going to shoot it with a 30-06. He thought I didn't see it coming.
This was a big rush for me. It was so exciting watching it through my scope from start to finish.

Thanks for letting me share my story with all of yous and enjoy the pic.

    Congrats Troutman,
I had to email Jose to find out how you guys did up there. Too bad you didn't see any deer. Did the 17 do much damage to the pelt?

    Hey Brian,

There was no pellet damage. All I could find was a tiny hole in the center of his chest. The bullet is still in him. I'll be getting a full mount of this bad boy.

YEAH BUDDDY! Very cool story and pics. Do you have anymore of you holding him up? How much did he weigh? Welcome to the 4-tags-left club. I'm trying to pick some dates for night calling soon and hope to bag a few more. Congratulations and now you don't have to imagine how I felt. Way to go!!!!

The .17 HMR sure does seem to be the ticket for the cats. What ammo, gun and scope were you using?

Congradulations Troutman on your first bobcat. I hope that well be the first of many for you.
I've always said there is something very real special about bobcats. After you kill a few hundred coyotes, another one is fun but no big deal.
It's always a BIG deal when you get a bobcat no matter how many you have killed.

Here are some more pix. Sorry, the adrenaline waas still flowing through my body while taking these pix.

Tim, you're right about the feeling it is great. The rifle I use is a Marlin 917V, scope is a BSA 6-24 x 50(for now, I took that of my 10/22). The ammo is CCI HMR-17-Gr. TNT

That last shot is cool. Again Troutman congratulations. Looks like a fluffy cat. Yep the CCR TNT ammo is the ticket. We'll have to compare full body mounts when they're done. Way to go

I think Switch is doing his with Darius. Darius has a cat mounted in his trophy room and it looks good. The face looks great, which will make or break a cat.
I have seen a few other Orange County taxi's Bobcats' and the faces looked bad- making the mount ruined in my opinion.

Yep, Darius has the skin of my cat and is doing a full body mount due next year. Jimm's right, the face is the key and one look at Darius' cat will sell you. It did me.

Shooterjohn, I knew someone would say something about that. That was good. I really got to watch what I write. I was laughing after I sent it.

SBF, It is a very nice, and think pelt.

I have 4 more tags to fill. I see a nice skin in the future.

I wish I could think of the the Taxidermist I use to go to. I think he was also in Orange County, He's probably retired by now. I had him do a full body badger a coyote rug and a bobcat rug. The guy did outstanding work, most of the CVCA members went to him...Maybe it was Bobs Taxidermy?
I know a Taxidermist in Apple Valley that's very good, but he is not cheap. Where ever you get it mounted, I hope it comes out great for you.
By the way Troutman, I grew up in El Monte, went to high school there. Use to hunt rabbits at what is now Legg Lake, caught alot of trout and bass out of that lake back in the 50s lol.

Troutman, I'm sure you would have done the same to me, I mean for me.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
A guy walks into a bar in Alabama and orders a mudslide.

The bartender looks at the man and says, "You

ain&#39;t from &#39;round here are ya?

"No," replies the man, "I&#39;m from Pennsylvania".

The bartender looks at him and says, "Well, what do ya do in Pennsylvania?"

"I&#39;m a taxidermist," said the man.

The bartender, looking very bewildered now, asks,

"What in the world is a tax-e-derm-ist?

    "The man says,"I mount animals".

The bartender stands back and hollers to the whole bar...

    "It&#39;s okay boys, he&#39;s one of us!"[/b]

    Switch,

I haven&#39;t been out since I got mt kitty. I&#39;ve been wanting to go, but way to many things to do around the house right now.
I&#39;m getting a full mount. The cat will be climbing some rocks or a branch, looking towards my wifes pooltable. She said it will look nice.
I don&#39;t think I&#39;ll be out till January.

    Didi you get another one?
