Wow, I sure hope whoever buys it recognizes the fact that hunters are their big reveneu and dont try and change it to where it doesnt cater to hunters.

If I bought it I would only change a few things. First off, you gotta add a 4 person size jacuzzi to every room. Then, add in-room dining from Pappy Ganders and the Polar Bear(only 'til 9pm), Orders would be placed via telephone. I would build a "Gentlemens Club" in the back for some evening"entertainment". And we would have to put a mini bar in every room so the young hunters could have snacks to munch on. Speaking of snacks, we would have to add some vending machines as well.
I figure this would be enough distractions to guarantee me and 4tule a wide open refuge the following morning!!

    Jon

I was up there 3 years ago and saw shell was still guiding then last year he was not on the guide list in Ca. and he is not on it this year I heard he got in trouble a few years back with DFG for what I have no clue.

I hunted with him back in 1970 for the first time he had just moved up there a few years before from Riverside that's when TL was in it's hay day, he was quite a guy I use to hunt some private property (ASC) that was right off LK it was a 1000 acres of ponds and it had a 200-300 acre closed zone between LK and the PP he use to open up the cut out he had on that old Dodge power wagon and drive up and down the dirt road to scare the birds up.

Several times he stopped where a buddy and I where camped and talked with us he remembered me and saw we where limiting every day by 9am and several times he asked us for any extra birds so a few of his hunters would not be skunked.

One time we went out with him and there was 8 of us he put 5 guys in a Barley field with several hundred goose decoys and gave them hand fulls of 00 buck and said when this mud ball of ducks ( like 1 million birds) gets up from feeding they will come right over just shoot and reload and keep shooting will count birds later, he took 3 of us out in the boat on LK put out decoys and we hunted until about 10 and picked up we got like 3-4 birds each when we got back to the field these guys had like 45 ducks some with holes you could see right thru some with no wing some - heads, by the time we put all the birds together we where one short of a 9 man limit that was a different kind of hunt a real opener.

He had quite a Rep as a guide for years here in Ca.

Greg, the last time I talked to Shell, (a few years ago), he was suspended from guiding the refuge because of a little over limit shooting by his clients. The way you descibe his methods, I can see why he got in trouble!

    BB,

Oh the memories of that place, great hunts with family & friends, but Tule's just not the same anymore like it used to be. Shell & Fay were good people, & he was definately "Old School" ................... The last CWA magazine commented on how all the birds are bypassing Tule for the Sac valley.
Time to follow the birds to their next spots...............
