I'm looking for a good quality ice chest, one that will hold ice for a few days in 60-80 degree weather. I use to have the Max cold 70qt from Igloo, I had to put ice in it every day in 70 degree weather. I'm mean it was almost all melted in a day.

I seen an ice chest at a ISE show a few years ago, it was like 150 qt but would hold ice for a week. Anyone know what this is? It was like $300 bucks or something.

I'm thinking of picking up a 100qt igloo to see how those work. Are Coleman better then Igloo?

I need atleast a 70qt ice chest.

Thanks!

I have an Igloo 128, and I love it. I put three blocks of ice and a 20 pound bag, and it's good to go for 7 days in 80 degree weather.

Since my last cooler outing last season was akin to Episode 2-Attack of the Bears , I eagerly await some good info for late spring/early Summer.

The key to any ice chest is to add more insulation.

A great trick is to fill up the dead air inside the chest with lightly wadded up newspaper....Also keep the water drained.

If you want performance try the Icytek coolers at most good fishing shops. They are alot more expensive but they hold ice.

Bass Pro in Savannah has a 150 Qt 5 day cooler on sale for either $69, or $89. All they guys are buzzing about them right now, but I've already got a 148 igloo. It's good enough.

You might want to check Bass Pro and see if it's on sale in your area. Sounds like a good deal, and I'd want one if I didn't already have one.

Picked up the Coleman/Igloo something at Sportmart 140qt for $55. Has a pop lid for easy asccess to a tray. Took it to the dessert where it was 85- 3 days and still had about a blocks worth of ice in it. Costco has the same ones currently for $59.

Most important part is to keep the water drained.

Mel- I have a Igloo Marine310 you are more than welcome to use. We would stack 4/5 blocks on oneside and use that at Shasta for 7-9 days. It has been back out behind the shop for the last two years- I will check to make sure the hinges are still working (not exposure rotted) and it is presentable on the inside.

Check Bass Pro Shops. Even if it's not on sale, at $89, it sounds like a good deal:

Although it is a little small I have the Coleman Metal ice chest and it will keep ice for 5-7 days in 70-80 degree temps.

Yeah, I have the metal coleman, too. It is a bit small, but I have never owned an ice-chest that keeps ice as well... We road-trip to the Central Coast each summer to ride the pismo dunes, fish, see family, etc. and now I have no heartburn packing fresh fish back to Wyoming. The cooler is $89 or $99, but worth every penny. I just with they made one 3x as large.

Try Iowa Rotocast. They make a 150 quart cooler that will hold ice for a week. It is not cheap, but very well insulated. Go to www.irpinc.com and look under new products. It is called the Outback. You cannot buy it from them, but Cabelas also carries it.

A few years ago I went to the lake for a couple weeks. Very hot! I took a coleman ice chest, but the ice just kept melting. I bought some styrofoam (1/2", I think) and lined the inside of the cooler with it. It increased the life of the ice incredibly.
When I was a kid, we had an ice chest that was made out of styrofoam. We had better luck with it than anything you can buy now.
Freeze water in 2 litre bottles, you can use it for whatever as it thaws and your food doesn't get soggy.

Best prices we found for ice chests were at Sportmart.

I think I have the same ice chest Sierra has. 1 7-9 lb block, 20-30 lbs cubes, has lasted for 3 days in the summer, and I am throwing leftover ice on the lawn, perhaps at least half of the ice.

I keep drinks in a playmate and/or another ice chest. I keep food in the larger ice chest, trying to open it only when needed. People are in the drink ice chest all day long.

I keep the ice chests out of direct sun if possible, I will make shade for the ice chests if necessary.

I have the "Igloo 128 qt" and got mine at Walmart. It holds ice for 5-6 days in 90-50 degree weather, I use it to hold all my piggies as well. It holds a nice 150lb pig just fine. I saw them at wally world the other night for $59.99 on sale. GREAT ice chest....

I put mine in a sleeping bag in the shade if it is going to be real hot. You can increase th elife of an ice chest by not putting heavy objects on them, including people. Once that seal is broken or warped, it won't hold the cold as well. Used to freeze salt water inbottles or plastic bags and put that in with the ice, really made things stay cold longer.

I like the idea of freezing your water bottles before you put them in the cooler. It keeps the ice longer.
All this talk about ice chests now got me in the mood to go out and buy another ice chest. For sure one with wheels and a tray.

IcyTek is the best cooler money can buy, period. They are expensive but are built like a brick sh**house.

My boat cooler is one of those 5 day coolers and at the Co. river it stays in the boat all day at 100 to 115 degree and at that temp it will hold Ice for about 4 days as long as I drain it every day if I don't drain it the ice goes buy the end of day 3.

Those Icy Teks are nice, but I cant justify spending $350 for an ice chest. I'll stick with my $60.00 job from walmart....
