Well, I finally retired my 91 K2500 that has served me so well over the past 14 years. I bought a 2005 F350 Lariat LB SRW with the diesel motor in it. It has been a dream to drive and the power is awesome. One bad thing right now is the 18" rims and lack of mud tires for that rim size. Do any of you guys know of any decent mud-terrain tires out there in the 33" range with at least a D load rating??
IMHO, BFG M/T's are the best, most reliable mud tires on the market. Unfortunately, they do not come in a 33" (LR D) for the 18" rim; only the 17" rim. They show a 35" for the 18" rim.
You'll be looking for a 285/65/18 size tire. That's only an inch greater than the OEM tire size. Is the difference worth the headache and cost? 4wheelparts shows the 35" tire running $290/tire.
Pro-Comp is showing a 33/13.50R18 (325/60R18) "XTERRAIN" tire that lists for $360/tire. Still a lot of cabbage.

I got all excited when I first viewed the topic and reply. I was thinking Marty finally got tired of pushing his Suburban and got a real vehicle.
All right, all right... yuck it up. My Sub may be a dog, but it's still pulling the sled.
My biggest complaint with the new trucks is the larger rims. Even our new 'Hoe has 17" rims. It does make the street handling much nicer. However, I wouldn't choose either 17's or 18's for off-roading. The meat is too expensive and you run into balance problems on many of the tires.

and the older 2004 rims won't fit! My brother just bought an '05 & ran into the same problem. I had a set of 2004 rims so i gave them to him. he went down to put them on & they would not work. congrats on the new truck.
Yeah, I've never had any other tires on my trucks other than BFG's. I don't want to go to the 35" size and I sent an email to BFG about more sizes becoming available and their reply was "BFG has no plans in the near future to offer additional sizes for the 18" rims"... The truck comes stock with 275/75R18E on it which is a 33" tire.
with the larger wheels come the larger brakes - there is one advantage.
For the tires, I just slapped on some 315/70/17 (35") BFG AT's. No problems so far, I had AT's on my Jeep and loved them.
when I die, I hope my wife doesn't sell my hunting gear for what I told her I paid for it.
I don't know exactly what sizes they come in, but I have the Bridgeston Dueler ATs on my F250. I am very impressed with these tires. On my Elk hunt back in Colorado last year, never had to use the 4x4 with snow on the dirt roads. They are also in the heaviest load range, something that is hard to find in other tires. The down side is they are $180 per.
As far as BFG goes, I can only offer my experience. I think they are over rated. Had some on my Bronco, man they don't last long. Hard to balance. Loud. I don't think I'll be in the market for BFGs any time soon.
