Jesse,as far as "LOPES" units in Nv,I'm partial to the S.E. part of the states since I reside in "Sin City" !!!.Have seen a couple of these units, that
    only put out 1 tag,"BUT"only have 2 Non-Res appicants.Now I'll take those "ODDS".

Thats the Good part of "Bonus Points" over "Preference Points",it only takes 1 "B.P" to sometimes draw.Good Luck in Your "04" hunts ---

I scored a tag this year and have a couple nice bucks picked out. Nothing over 14 inches...but nice charcteristics. Hope everything goes right in two weeks. I did see some archery blinds near two of the bucks I scoped out. I hope they miss.

    My tag is in 067-068.

My buddy saw my bucks in the area we saw archery blinds. They made it through archery season.

I'll be scouting some different areas on Thursday and Friday so I may not even bother these bucks I've spotted. It's a big area and I've only scouted a small portion so far.

Good luck and don't let your caps get wet...been there-done that.

I managed to spoil the day on a 14 inch buck the second weekend.

The first weekend I spotted as nice buck in the hay fields and shot at him from 200 yards...5 times. Missed clean on each shot. Went back Sunday and shot at him again from 450 yards. Another clean miss.

Monday i bought a new scope and zeroed it Wednesday. The following Saturday after huntning a different area all day we went back for the same buck and I cleaned his clock from 320 yards. One shot...heart and lung.

I wouold have loved to get a bigger buck, but we ran out of gas looking for him. Only two weekends to hunt...I knew the odds were low. So I took the best bet I had.

Nate, congratulations! Is that head trauma related to any of your previous shots? It looks like a possible graze shot to the posterior scalp.

I thought that was some kind of tag myself. If not that then it could me the "Y" incision that is done to skin the hyde off the head.

LOL...that's the ear tag they put on these critters at the pettin zoo. This one had served his time and they asked me to take care of him.

Seriously though...NDOW relocated him from an urban area out into an area about 60 miles from where I found him. They released him in 2001 as a mature buck. I assume mature in their words means 3 years oild...that would make him 6 now. I called the biologist to get the story on the ear tag and he was real surprised to hear where I took him.

Nate, nice goat! Would you hunt that area again for lopes? Why I ask is that I put that area down as my 3rd choice only because it's where we deer hunt (which has been a mighty long time ago). I have 3 points now and was interested in the quality of the bucks in that area. My dad was drawn last year in 32,34-35 zone and took a nice 15" buck but we covered a ton of area and saw very few animals on public ground. So I'm open to different areas or suggestions...

    hntndux,

I would say there are a lot of 'good' bucks in the area, but nothing really big. A lot of 13-15 inchers came out of this area (I saw 6). But you are not going to break a P&Y record in this area.

I saw a couple BIG bucks come out of the areas in the North West corner. 022 to 015 I think???? Not sure on the areas...but that area north of Gerlach, east or west.

If you want meat in the freezer, the area 6 will do you good...assuming you don't mind hunting hard. But if you want horns, I'd stay away from it.

When I put in for the area I did the same as you. I had hunted deer there and knew the area. But if I knew then what I know now, I would have put in for some different areas.
