Springfield Sportsmen’s Show - "Outdoors Northeast"
February 19 to 22, 2004 at the "BIG E," Eastern States Exposition, West Springfield, MA.
The 21th annual Springfield Sportsmen’s Show, OUTDOORS NORTHEAST, will be Feb. 19 to 22 at the "Big E," the Eastern States Exposition , West Springfield, MA.
The largest ’pure’ hunting and fishing show in the Northeast, it is the only show that offers a giant aquarium "Gamefish Center" and more than a half million square feet of booths, exhibits, seminars and action areas. Show goers can preview the show at: www.osegsportsmens.com
’Free Gun Locks’ will be given away at the show this year for ProjectHomeSafe, funded in part by a US Department of Justice grant and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). ProjectHomeSafe is a nonprofit organization that will distribute 20 million free gunlocks nationwide in 2004. Visit them on-line at: www.ProjectHomeSafe.org
NESN’s national award winning TV fishing star Charlie Moore, "The Mad Fisherman", will provide excitement and fishing fun all days of the show. Charlie brings his bassing antics and great bass knowledge to fishing fans in person and makes himself available for ’autographs & laughs’. Charlie and NESN will have daily drawings for Red Sox and Bruins tickets, along with sport celebrity signed and framed photos.
The Gamefish Center, a giant traveling aquarium stocked with fish of the Northeast exclusive in OSEG shows, will be among the many features which include: Jonathan Wood’s "Live Birds of Prey," "The Dog Pond" where working water dogs under Dave Krassler will perform, two Trout Ponds stocked daily for fishing, a Gamebird Wildlife Pen, a Casting Pool where spin, fly and bait casting experts will perform, teach and lecture, an Air-gun Range for the kids and more!
Back by popular demand is Bwana Jim’s Reptile Show, "Have Alligator Will Travel!" ’Bwana Jim’ Molton has a great blend of educational information well seasoned with comedy and audience rapport as he handles gators, crocs, snappers and venomous snakes.
Bass fishing pro Danny Joe Humphrey became the first angler to win the B.A.S.S. National Federation Championship which qualified him for the prestigious Bassmasters Classic. Danny Joe Humphrey is often credited with being the father of the floating worm technique. Danny Joe founded Carolina Fish and Fur in 1980 and in three years the company became an exclusive tackle retailer. In 1987 Danny Joe designed Bass fishing’s best kept secret - Danny Joe’s Original Floating Worm.
The Bass Pro Spectacular Includes Jordan Paulo, Mark Burgess and Rick Lilligard, some of the pro bass tour’s most consistent fishermen. Many of these pros have had big wins in the past few years and of course, OSEG’s own ’ambassador of bass’ Billy Bass Decoteau.
Smith & Wesson firearms will hold a drawing to give away a 686-4 Stainless Steel 357 with a 4" barrel. The sign-up for the drawing will be at the at the Smith & Wesson display. See below.
The wet and wild action of the Tuna Fighting Pool under the expert guidance of Capt. Bill Brown, saltwater editor of "Woods and Waters USA", will allow show goers to take a shot at landing a 200-pound "scuba" fish. Capt. Bill’s rapid fire wit and information make this a ’must see’.
The most extensive appearance of the Northeast Big Buck Club will feature the top deer mounts for the entire Northeast, and new record breakers. This display may just possibly be the largest organized deer rack/mount display in the world! The first opportunity for the sporting public to buy the Fourth Edition of Northeast Big Buck Record Book will be at this show.
The sheer size of the show insures the greatest cross section of equipment, seminars, outfitters and guides. It offers the most competitive prices for show goers.
Roger Pyzocha, the only New England fisherman who is a member of the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame, will present seminars on catching trophy size warm water fish. He holds the Massachusetts record for taking the two largest fish ever caught in Bay State open waters. He will talk on catching northern pike, tiger musky, catfish, walleyes, carp, perch and bass.
Capt. Doug Jowett will present seminars on salt water fly fishing and fly tying that cover the entire Northeast. There’s an impressive lineup of fresh and saltwater fly experts including Marla Blair and Mike Bartlett, along with surfcasting experts Ron Arra, a five time world distance casting expert, Frank Daignault and Dave Pickering. They will reveal the secrets of their techniques in landing bass in the surf from Maine to Long Island. This lineup is truly a "Saltwater Bonanza"!
The nation’s top buck hunting expert Dick Scorzafava, with his insightful and practical deer hunting tips, is credited with not only being the top whitetail expert in the nation, but also with knowing more about the deer than the deer themselves. He will cover calls, scents, rattling, tracking, still hunting and stand hunting. "All these factors," he reports, "add up to getting you into the biggest buck of your life." Dick writes for many hunting publications and books trips for the Scent-Loc TV show.
Filling out the whitetail hunting program will be "The Benoits" with their multimedia presentation. Father Larry was the OSEG whitetail speaker for many years. Though Larry won’t be there himself, his sons Lanny, Lane and Shane will come well prepared to share their vast combined whitetail knowledge.
Turkey calling pros Joe Judd of Quaker Boy, along with Steve Peperis of Primos, will return to talk about turkey calling and hunting of wild springtime gobblers. Their tips and techniques will help hunters tumble their toms spring and fall.
Turkey callers throughout the Northeast will have a chance to ’strut their stuff’ on Saturday at 1 P.M. at the Massachusetts Turkey Calling Championship. Sign up is at the NWTF booth with a small entry fee.
Join award-winning outdoor writer Bob Humphrey for an insightful seminar on turkey hunting’s ultimate challenge as he discusses tactics and equipment for spring and fall bowhunting. Bob will be available for signing his most recent book on hunting toms in the Northeast.
There is secure parking adjacent to the show buildings for over 8,000 vehicles. The Eastern States Fairgrounds, Home of the Big E, is located only 10 minutes from the Mass Turnpike, exit 4 to Rt. 5 South. On Interstate 91, traveling South, take exit 7 to Rt 147.
