10/22/03 I decided to take off of work early to get into the woods. I thought maybe with the significant change in temperature and light showers the deer may actually move. Got into my tree by 3:30....What did I see? Sh*t. It seems to be a major pattern of mine lately and I am getting frustrated. I am not the only one either. I do not know what is going on....but it seems deer are few and far between in my area.

They are not taking to food well either. Maybe I just suck...I don't know. I never had a problem in the past, but for the past 2 weeks I have not seen anything.

Sunday I am scouting a new area that I strongly believe is not hunted at all. I am going into small patches of woods that the gun hunters cannot hunt due to the nearby houses...but are large enough to hold quite a few deer. Maybe this way I will see SOMETHING. I am disgusted. It seems with gun season approaching...All of a sudden the deer are HIGHLY SPOOKED....I think there are too many hunters in our area.

I snuck out in the afternoon yesterday.. Rattled in a wide 4pt..Give him a pass...Had 3 does under the stand...As I was coming down the tree I heard foot steps...Wouldn't know it,,,here comrs a good buck. I was able to turn and draw but he knew something was up. When he finally made a move I oouldn't see my pins...

    sandals ,

I wouldn't worry about them not coming into your pile much . The acorns dropped and there is plenty for them to eat out there . I have had plenty of does come in and walk right passed the pile not even looking at it . If I was not over a good run I would not be seeing anything either .

Have they buily any new homes near where you are hunting ? Sometimes that can push the deer into a new section of woods . Be carefull hunting in that new section you are talking about . If it is too small for gun hunters I think the 450' rule is for bow hunters also . Two 450 infractions and you loose your hunting for life .

Have you set any cams out where you are hunting now ? Could be you are too far from bedding or feeding areas . If you are seeing alot of droppings but no deer thay are there at dark / night / early morning .

I know you said alot of people out there so I dont think I would place a cam out now . I have 20 acres and I pulled all but one of my cams . Worked to hard building them and am not going to loose em !!!

Let us know how you make out with scouting this new section !!

    Don

I too am pulling my cams in close by since I'm seeing more and more activity in the Woods and I would hate to see mine stolen. My 12 year old son missed a 6pt twice last Saturday. He was really excited, since it was his first shot at a real deer. I'm seeing more and more rubs and big prints so the bucks are starting to roam. The time changes this weekend which ends my hunts after work, but allows more time before work. good luck guys.
