After over twenty years of hunting in NW Fla and South Alabama, I am finally going to get to hunt up north. I will be hunting in Morgan County, Ohio the week of N0v 13-22. I was told by the Ohio DNR that this should be around the peak time of the rut. I am going to hunt on public land in and around Mcconnellsville. Has anyone hunted this area before and if you have do you have any feedback for me? Also, how cold can I expect it to be there during that time of the year? Any feedback would be great.

You could expect temperatures to go as low as in the 20's typically. Average temperatures should be in the mid 30's to low 50's. If you don't like the weather temp just wait 10 minutes and it will change!!!

Pigsdaddy, I hope you enjoy your Buckeye hunt. That time frame should put you in the middle of some primetime action. Mohican was right about the weather. Be prepared for anything. Rain, snow, frosty mornings, wind, bright sunshine and shirt-sleeve-warm afternoons. You can even get it all in the same day! Dress in layers and try not to work up a sweat getting to your stand. Travel light and pack in the extras in a knapsack. I haven't hunted Morgan County, but I've been around a few counties farther south of where you'll be, so I can't help you with any specifics on where to set-up. I hope you get the chance to haul out a bruiser.

You will probably sweat your balls off walking to the stand but will freeze just after daybreak or just before dark. I usually carry my coveralls into the woods with me that time of the year and put them on in the tree.I grew up in Jacksonville Fl, but now live in central Ohio. Its a whole different world up here in the woods. One thing you can look forward to other than world class deer is no skeeters and no deadly snakes. I usually take the 1st whole week of november off to hunt up here with some of my buddies from jacksonville. We have seen it snow that week and we have also played golf in t-shirts and jeans.

Thanks for all the advise. I cannot wait to get up there. I am so excited about being able to leave my bugtamer behind. I will not know how to act with the weather cool and not having to worry about getting bit on the way to the stand or while I am in it. Thanks again!

I am breaking into a cold sweat just thinking about it. I got to see some pics this morning from another family in my home town that hunts near the same area. Those bucks were monsters. I am not even sure if I will be able to draw back on something like that.
