Does ruger make a 10/17? I think I want o get a 17hrm and it would be cool to get on with the heavy barrel like the 10/22's have.
The short answer is yes. Clark Custom Guns and Volquartsen Custom also make semi-auto .17s.
Try to find a July 2003 copy of The Varmint Hunter Magazine and look on page 118 for a description of new .17 rifles or better still, check the manufacturers websites.
I don't ever remember a single cartridge achieving the overnight popularity of the .17 HMR.

Cahunter,
I have it from a good resource/contact that Ruger is intending to release a 10/17HMR. The issue has alwas been the blowback action causing extraction before complete ignition leading to erratic chamber pressures and bulged/ruptured casings (due to an unsupportted case during ignition).
Ms is correct in that there are smaller companies offering these rifles (though at exorbit prices). The only large manufacturers that comes to mind offering a semi-auto HMR are Remington and BRNO (the 597 and 611, respectively).
It's only a matter of time til Ruger gets a SAFE and RELIABLE 10/17HMR out the door.
Personally, I'd rather see the 10/17HS on the market myself, but alas, Aguila is still piddling around with a release date on the ammo...

In short at this time Ruger does not make a 10/17HMR. As MPMI has pointed out once Ruger gets the case problem fixed one will hit the market. A lot of guys are picking up the 10/22mags and getting after market barrels for them in 17HMR.
Till then Rem. and now BRNO have them out.

MPMI,
I've been holding my breath for the 10/17HS (Aguila). A few questions...
Will the 10/22 action cycle with the .17 Aguila? Will it be a matter of slapping a .17 barrel on a 10/22 action? Also will the 10/22 rotary mag work as is? I know AMMOe has also messed with this round.
Do you guys have a WAG about these questions??![]()
Pasco,
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
There still an ammo availability issue that has been yet to be resolved (dagnabit!). I've got a 10/17HS prototype just beggin for some ammo!
BTW, there will be 16.5", 18" barrels (all fluted) available soon, everyone's just waiting on the ammo before offering the barrels for sale. Also, there will be barrels made to fit the 77/22 as well.
It will indeed be a dandy little squirrel cartridge! (IMHO)
Cheers!

I saw a marlin 17 thats bolt action and clip fed at Reed's sporting goods. It had a heavy barrel and seemed like a good set up. I think I might take another trip up there sunday.
Cahunter the marlin is about the best 17HMR for the $$$$ and MPMI can tell you have to fix the trigger.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it...
Here's a picture of a standard 10/22 Mag with a 17HS round in it...no problems with the length.

Yes! Ruger is comingout with a model 10/17 based on the 10/22 we all know and love...basically the same specs as the 10/22 magnum...should be out soon!

I just got a Marlin 17 VS a couple weeks ago, and absolutely love it. I have only had time to put about 40 rounds through it, but for a new gun right out of the box, I'm really impressed. The trigger is not the best, but I have shot alot worse for brand new stock guns. I'm really looking forward to shooting it more.
BTW, this is my first post over here in the rimfire section. Great place you guys have here.
