For the past month or so I've been getting random errors, mostly various Invalid Page Fault errors but a lot of failure to read the Registry type stuff at boot up. Just hitting "restart the computer" several times in a row would usually generate different errors (and sometimes all worked fine) I constantly had to restore the Registry.
I thought Virus, but Norton didn't report anything, then I noticed Norton wasn't working properly either. Uninstalled it and tried to re-install it and it would install ok but when I updated the Virus Definitions off the net, that would usually fail
etc etc etc
I thought it had to be a virus and finally restored a disk image this AM but still got various errors. I just knew the image was clean so figured it had to be a hardware problem
got a RAM checker off the Net and you guessed it, bad memory (both memory sticks were bad?) Reinstalled some old memory and all is well (altho I went from 256M to 64meg of RAM)
Whoooooo! was sure scarey for awhile
unfortunatly the Disk Image was 6 months old and I forgot to backup my emails and favorites, darn.....
but at least it's fixed (I think)
so if you are having the same troubles, mite check out your RAM b-4 blaming a Virus
Win 98 2nd edition and IE6 (now back to IE5.5)
