I was out there on Sunday testing some loads for the coyote hunt. I went up above the public ranges and watched the IPSC match. I really liked the club. I'm thinking more and more of a membership. It seems like the real advantage to the club is that you could go out during the week, which on occasion, I might be able to do, but the majority of my shooting tme is on the weekend. Every saturday and sunday has something scheduled so are the member only areas all occupied on the weekends or are there still ranges available to shoot.
You have to check the shoot calender. ###It looks like theres 25-30 shoots going on at a time, but each shoot is once a month like the first saturday, second sunday, etc. ### So, I don't think the whole back area is ever used at one time. ###Also, most of the organized shoots are over by noon. ###If I'm going early I'll check and see how many shoots are scheduled for the day. Some days have less shoots and some of the shoots are less popular and end pretty quickly. ###But like I said, I don't think the whole area is ever used at one time. ###My favorite time is in the spring/summer 4pm to dark (daylight savings time). ###All the public shooters are gone, so you have your run of the whole place. ###On holidays I've never seen more than 10-15 guys on the whole 80 acres. ###By 3pm it's a ghost town. ###
Bishop,
Is there anyway I can get a tour of the place?
Karstic: I don't have any phone numbers here at the office, but I can get some for you if you don't have any club info. Most of the shoots are run by board members, so I'm sure one of them would give you a tour before or after their shoot. Same with the range master. Their's just 2 roads on the grounds. The one you went back on goes to all of the shooting bays, junior range, and the long range rifle positions. ###The road that forks to the right from the public range goes to the trap and skeet ranges.
I'd like to see the trap and skeet range. I'll ahve to try and make it up there on a Saturday. Do you know if there are any plans for a sporting clays course?
I don't think there are any plans to build anything more for a while. We just closed escrow on the property Jan 25th. So we're concentrating on paying it off, then we're free to spend money on more additions. It's going to be great actually owning the property. Most clubs are on leases. You probably know that all the outdoor ranges and clubs in Orange county are now gone. I use to (18 years ago)belong to the Corona Sportsmans Club. At that time we had a great range at the 91 and 15. We lost that lease and moved down by Elsinore. A few years later after the club built the new range the owner wouldn't renew the lease, so the club moved again, leaving the range facilities in place. The owner turned it into a private gun club. Now the club is on a smaller property in the Lake Matthews area. Hopefully, they'll be able to stay there longer, but you know how much property is worth in So Cal.
I can't believe I didn't know this was there! ###I think I'll try to visit this week. ###Maybe Friday.
Thanks for the info, Bishop!

How does this place compare to Lydle creek ??
No comparrison when it comes to comfort. ###The Lytle Creek Firing Line is about 6-8 miles past West End. ###It is totally no frills. ###Like shooting in a rock quarry. ###Homemade little individual tables at the shooting positions. ###Can't really sight in because they just wobble in the gravel. ###No target stands. ###I don't think they have any organized shoots, and also don't have skeet or trap. ###
The public shooting area at West End is on cement slab with permanant shooting and sitting benches, equipment tables, and covered. ###Very nice when it's 90-100 degrees in the summer. ###As far as I know the daily fee is the same.
Bishop:
Very good thought in posting the link for the CA attorney general's website, this should help a lot of folks answer a lot of questions that they have about owning, possesing, transporting, buying or selling guns in California.

That's a nice range! Does it compare to San Gabriel Valley Gun Club in Duarte?

I'm a member and I can shoot 24-7 any time I want unlike
duarte. When you are a member they give you a combo to the gate and you can bring anybody you want any time.
NO wait list and only 120$ a year.
OK, I just came back from WestEnd doing some shooting, the place is pretty nice and clean even though the "public" range is not that big, but the good part about it is that there was no more than 10 people there. Now I didn't get a chance to see the "members" range since Steve (The Range Master) didn't let me go back there, I also didn't get a chance to see the trap and skeet since it was closed by the time I got there.
The place overall is pretty nice, I would like to go another time to tour the whole place to possibly sign up as a member.

I'm still on probation there. Still have to attend the orientation. I've been out hunting every time they have it. Maybe next time.... BTW, that's one reason I joined, because it's easier for me to go there during the week than on the weekends.
SoCal,
There are multiple ranges out back. The one I'm particularly interested in is the 600 yard rifle range to practice more long distance shots.

Kickaha,
I'm not sure if you know this, but the 600 yard range is set up shooting over top of some of the other ranges (or cutouts) Anyway, if you haven't seen it, it's a pretty nice set-up.
1socal,
The public range is always like that, not to many people, I've never seen it fill up. Not to say that it hasn't, I just have never seen it.
Thanks for info John (EVAN II) and maybe we can arrange a day for all of us to meet out there. What'ya think?

That wouldn't be a bad idea 1SoCal Hunter. MAybe a JHP event out there before the deer season starts in the fall.

This target is from this past Saturday when I was at WestEnd with my S&W 629 Classic 44MAG at what I think was 15 yards.
