    How about some short introductions?

Where are you from in Nevada?

What kind of game do you like to hunt the most?

Who taught you how to hunt and when was your first hunting trip?

Do you use a rifle shotgun, or bow? What kind?

What is your favorite hunting memory?

    What is your dream hunt?

A little late chiming in here.

I live in Spanish Springs (Sparks), NV.

Lived in the Reno Sparks area for 15 years.

Hunt mostly on the north east corner of the state...but have a few honey holes near home for those weekends I can't get out of town.

Currently chasing Turkeys in Lovelock. Final weekend is this weekend.

Chukar is my pation. But I also chase blues ,Snow Cocks, Deer, Elk, pheasant , ducks and hope to get a goat, ram or pronghorn tag before I die.

I started hunting about 5 years ago. My wife's brothers all hunt and I got to tag long as a photographer about 6 years ago. I got the fever and immediatley took a hunter saftey course. The same year I picked up a Golden Retriever pup and introduced him to birds in the last weekend of that season. He's turned into a great hunting partner. Last September I picked up a GSP pup and she's been quite a challenge in training...but she did real good finding birds at 4 months old this last year. She has not developed the pointing insticnt yet and refuses to retrieve birds...but we will continue working on that.

My bro in laws have taught me a lot over the years. One is a hardcore hunter who rarely buys meat at the grocery store. One is a laid back duck hunter who donates a lot of the meat he kills to friends. So I get lessons from both directions.

My most memorable hunt was when I spanked a 300 point bull elk with my 7 mag on Thanksgiving morning in 2002 after a week of hunting. My brother in law told me he was proud of me that morning. My chest got all puffed up...for a minute. Then we started trying to figure out how to get the carcass off the mountain. LOL

I'll be the black sheep from "no hunting zone" Las Vegas, Nevada!

I'm stationed at Nellis AFB with RED HORSE, a mobile heavy construction squadron.

I love Hunting and Fishing, and hopefully when I get back to Vegas when my tour in the "sand box" is over I hope I can meet some other hunters and somewhere to hunt in my area.

Let me know if we can get together out there OR if you have any suggestions.

Will be staying somwhere around the airport.

Hi, I'm from Spring Creek, at the bottom of the Ruby mountains in Elko county. I started trapping/ hunting/ fishing as a boy. My grandpa was a government trapper and it's just what my family has always done.
I am passionate about fly-fishing, archery or pistol hunting big game, shotgunning for upland birds, calling predators but my absolute favorite is turkey hunting.

I'm from Las Vegas. I know and like to hunt elk the most. My dad taught me while growing up in Colorado and took me on my first hunt when I was about 14. some of my best memories were getting to go with my grandpa because of the stories and jokes he would tell at camp.

    Hi pitman,
I have been down to carson several times to hunt quail, you have thousands of them in your neck of the woods.
I am pretty sure there are some sportsmans groups there also that can turn you on to some goos hunting.
    Good luck

Dang Pyke your in this forum too! It's all good.. Am from Vegas area. Moved from So. California 4 years ago. Enjoy hunting waterfowl, upland, and mulies. Never hunted big game in Nevada, since it's so hard to get drawn.

It's looks like a good year for chukars and quail. Had a buddy say he seen at least 300 quail over the weekend, and tons of chukar. Can't wait till the season.

    Default Pyke

Pyke I also forgot, I was talking to Oly the other day and he said you might be able to help me with a Snowcock. Found a site with some locations and reports from hikers.

What size shot would be good? It'll be me and one other buddy heading up there. I was planing a few trips up there because I know it's a tough hunt. I was also thinking of trying to get on some blues while am up there.

    Thanks

    -Dom

I live under the Ruby Mnts. here in Spring Creek. As usual my favorite animal to hunt is the one that tastes the best along side my mashed potatoes and fresh greens.:) I rifle hunt and archery hunt but haven't tried my hand in archery since moving up here from So. Cal. I think most here's dream hunt is that Bull Elk tag that they have been putting in for anywhere from 15 to 20 some years for. I see no sense in doing that when I can get a antlerless elk tag at least every other year and put meat on the plate. I think my looked after hunt would be one of those American Goats I see all the time up here.:)

Hi dom, you do know that the Himalayan snowcock is a great trophy so you have made a terrific choice in wanting to hunt them, the ruby mountains is the only place in these united states that they are found and hunted.
You need a permit from NDOW { it's free } and then bring your tightest fullest choked shotgun loaded with premium shells in #6 shot.
Plan on a minimum of 3 days, 1 day hike in, 1 day to try and ambush the grey bird, 1 day to hike out.
There are some guides in the area that go after these girds, there are also several web pages on hunting himalayan snowcock.
    Good Luck..

Doing well Pyke. Starting to get excited for the upcoming hunts this year. Going on my 6day fishing trip next month too and I just got done looking at the reports and they are bringing in the Wahoo.

Hi SD, good luck with the fishing and hunting, I'll be spending all my days off in August in the rubies, archery deer and bass fishing the marshes.

I was going to stop by and say "HI" but for the life of me ,I can't remember how to get to your place...

I am not in NV anymore. I moved to CAs central valley 10 or so years ago, But I grew up in Yerington, and hunted as much as I could, all over the state. Our whole family was into it, But my Dad and I more so. I hunt with rifles, pistol, and shotgun. I'm not opposed to archery, I just never practiced enough to be good with it. I've taken muleys, a pronghorn, an elk, ducks, geese, quail, chukar, rabbits, doves, almost got into some sage grouse but my brother beat me to it, and I'm sure a couple others I can't think of now. I still try to get back as often as I can, and I usually put in for a non-resident deer tag, though it's been a few years since I drew. Maybe someday I will convince my CA girl that the slow-paced country ways are better and we'll go back for good. Time will tell:)
