I would have to go with Jeep. My jeep Cherokee has 285k and I am taking it to Colorado this year again.

You have to go Dodge! Dodge rocks!!

    Hey Qbn:
Why did you include Toyota trucks in your poll? We like trucks made with tools and not with chopsticks!
Also, Jeep doesn't make "real" trucks....

    Howdy Folks,

i own a Real American made 1978 Chevy 4x4 that has well over 600,000 miles on it......hehehe

the running gear is sound as a rock with the manual 4 speed tranny nor the front end never been into for any kind of repair other than regular maintenance and also over the last 20 years i have replaced the clutch 3 times
the rear end has had a ring gear changed twice since I've owned it over the last 20 years but mainly due to replacing the posi unit in it once because of a heavy foot and too many ponies under the hood

when i bought the truck back in 1983 , i only drove it around a couple of weeks and pulled the engine out to build it and now under the hood it is on it's 3rd engine (counting the original one)but it is fresh at 30,000 miles since the one before that happen to break a crankshaft when reaching 293,310 miles on it...lol
the engine in it now IS the same block(3970010-4bolt main) with all new parts except the block-n-heads , when i rebuilt it , it only required being bored to .40 over

this particular engine is in the neighborhood of 400 ponies now that are anxious to trot....hehehe

Not a Metric bolt on it Nowhere's to my knowledge and i like it this way and when replacing parts that needed changed over the years such as brake linings as well as clutches the replacement parts are only American made , no foreign stuff for me...hehehe

can you already tell i like the older Chevy stuff .......hehehe
so you may guess whom my vote goes to

just got myself a ''New'' truck a couple of months ago and guess what i bought

    Yep a 1987 Chevy 4x4
hey at least i upgraded to a 9 year newer ride......hehehe

    Take Care,
    Gun Docc

Ive seen Toyotas with 300,000 miles on em and are still going strong. However like with all products...sometimes ya get a lemon. I bought a new Tacoma in 95 and it had a bad fuel pump at 10,000 miles. Pretty minor but so far thats the only problem ive had..........unless ya count the 2 broken leaf springs.......but that was driver error i think.

I'm not much of a brand loyalist.

Generally, when it's time to get another car or truck I have a list of needs and wants and look at what all the manufacturers have to offer, and pick the one that checks off the most items on that list.

So far, Toyotas have met those requirements more than other brands. On the far horizon I'm also looking at Dodge and GMC trucks for the next purchase.

Yeah Yeah Your city trucks last alot of miles esp. Chevy's. Put those trucks to work out on the farm or ranch and you don't see many chevys. You see alot of Fords. Come by tha ranch sometime & I can prove it! BUT I have to vote for DODGE!!!

Thats funny! I would have thought a lot more seriously about a dodge if the back seat on the crewcab was bigger. With 2 little ones you need enough room for all the stuff that goes with them, and the dodge back seat just didn't meet the needs for me. So I bought another Ford. Needless to say, 2 years later about the only time it sees the dealer is at the routine maintanance schedule. Not a single problem to this day, BTW I got my first scratch on it just last friday.

Got to go with Dodge. Been brand loyal for a long time. I agree with prohunter, you look at the farm trucks and it is Ford and Dodge, the Chevy's are for the burbs!

Out in the sticks and farmland here, Ford rules by a long shot. Especially the F250 & 350 Diesels. Chevys dont sell well here at all and Dodge's are just a notch up from Chevys as for numbers you see on the road.
When I was out in CA a few weeks ago, one thing I noticed is that Diesel trucks arent very popular out there, at least not like out here. Why is that ???

I don't know what part of CA you were in, but here in the central valley(lots of farmland) they are everywhere.

By American what do you mean? American made trucks, that are manufactured in the U.S. Like Toyota or Nissan or American truck companies like Chevy and Ford, Dodge is owned by the Germans. These American truck companies, Ford and Chevy, make there trucks in Canada and Mexico.

I have a little confession to make. When I am going into some remote place, where it mite be a little nasty or just runningaround on the ranch, I have a 1985 toyota 4x4 pickup. That little truck I can just throw the worst stuff at it & it always comes thru for me. Don't tell anybody that! I still like Dodges better.

By American trucks, I mean Ford, Chevy, and Doge!

    Not Toyota, or Nissian!!!

Still don't care where there made. And I don't care how long they last.

I had a Toyota once, and never again!

    Sorry, just my opinion

Dodge is owned by the Germans.

I would like to buy an all US made truck but their aint one. Your chevy and Ford have parts in them that are made all over the world.

My pick is Ford but only because of a flip of a coin. I like Chevy too but agree with Gun Doc, I like the older trucks and the new stuff scares me.

    Hmm . . . .

I never used chopsticks to build Toyota Tacoma's at the NUMMI assembly plant in Fremont, CA

I have owned 5 Toyota trucks in the last 15 years, and the most money I have spent is on regular oil changes, and fluids. (kept upgrading to bigger and better models over the years, not because they had problems) My T-100 may not be as big and bad as your Chevy, Ford or Dodge, but when it comes to reliability, and keeping money in my pocket for repairs..........you can't beat it! Oh yeah, I also have a 2001 Chevy 2500 Silverado, 4X4 that I use for a work truck, 50,000 miles, I have been through three sets of brake's, and 1 set of rotors. The fan assembly blew apart under the hood at 10,000 miles, and caused over1300.00 in damage under the hood. It leaks road water from underneath, and the sound/insulation under the rubber mat is completely saturated and is smelling musty (since new). And one more thing....it has a rattle in the exhaust (LOUD vibration) at 1500rpm, I have had it looked at several times, and they can't fix it. Never had any of those problems with my Toyota!!

I have a Ford Ranger 4x4 with 182,000 miles. I just put the 4th set of tires on it. It's been very reliable even after being driven from CA to TN and back about 9 times as well as a 100 mile round trip to work 5 days a week.

Had a 2000 Dodge Durango and at 20k miles the overdrive gear won't shift until the temperature gauge reached its normal temp which is halfway. Still have a 1989 Toyota PU 4x4 with 389k miles and it still runs like new. Replaced a cylinder head at 325k miles was the only major maintenance done on it and that's because I did 95 mph from Sacramento to LA which I considered it a driver's error. A friend in Texas had a 2001 Ford F250 4x4 and it got stucked in the mud while we were out pig hunting in the rain. We pulled it out on the main dirt road with a tractor, drove it 100 feet and it slid off the road and got stucked again. We had to used the tractor to tow it out of the ranch and onto the paved road. We took my Toyota in the ranch and although we were sliding back and forth on the ranch roads, it made it throughout the ranch without getting stuck. Oh I almost forgot we did killed our pigs.

Chevy all the way don't like Ford ( fixed or repaired daily or backwards driver returns on foot lol) never tried a dodge, & the imports are twucks not trucks lol. As far as what Drayton said about the dodge being owned by germans, the MB ML's are made in the states I guess thats why they are 1 of the most reliable Benz's made right now (hillbilles make em with German parts) If I could afford 1 I'd probably get 1 I've put enough miles on them since I drive 1 for work & they don't get stuck easy with the traction system in them either.

Honestly I think ALL of the full size new trucks are pretty nice, when you consider ride comfort and mileage versus trucks of say 15 years ago.

but I have to say in my experience the Toyotas are the most reliable and have the best off-road capabilty leaving the showroom floor.

My 99 Silverado couldn't hold a candle to my 03' Tundra in off road situations

And another note, and not a small one...

Every cent that my wife makes comes from when you guys buy Toyotas. Yep she works for Toyota, so buy em up please, we need the money!!

BTW, they have a FULL 4-door Tundra (quad cab, whatever you want to call it) coming out in 2004 if you are interested in more cab room, its on their website now.

Oh ya, and I was an engineer at Ford in Dearborn 10 yrs ago. I still like Fords, but Toyotas are that good.
