I'd give a left.........uh......pinky finger to have a buck like any of those walk into my shooting lanes! Once again, thanks for posting the pics, woods.![]()
The bottom one was a black powder buck if I am not mistaken. DL
Thats some big deer , whats the story behind them monsters, Is the first one in the books?
Can't tell you a lot about the bottom pics except Jim Morses 172" was shot in 1999,Joe Lenardos 177" was 19 points and killed in 2000,Gordon Merrills 167" was shot as DLuke says by ML and had 11 points.Freds top monster was killed in about 1949 and was sold to another hunter who cut the horns from the skull eliminating any chance of ever being in the record books. When Fred got it back years later he had the horns put back on the skull and mounted as close to as it was in life as possible.I'll post a pic of the mighty buck when Fred killed it and you can see the horns are pretty much in the original position in its new mount.Would guess it scores well over the 200" mark.

That picture never ceases to amaze me. I can't even imagine what that deer must have looked like live in the woods.![]()
When you stand there and stare at it from about 3 feet away it just blows you away.He saw it quite a few times before he was able to shoot it so I guess he got quite a few "thrills".Thats the buck that always traveled with an old doe and lived along Gulliver deadwater by the brunt land.I shot several nice bucks in there where fred hunted that buck only 15-20 years later. There was another huge buck up in there in the early sixties but Fred never got it and no one else ever did either. It used to cross down at the old earthen dam at the lower end but Fred never caught him doing it while he was on stand.Fred was fearless at tree climbing so he would get 30 or so feet up and watch for him. Before the logging operations got down in there and murdered the area it was one of the best areas I ever hunted.Genetics were in that area big time and there were several "monsters" that came out of there thru the years.

real nice hunting pics and very intresting stories to go with them.Hunter orange hadn't even been conceived yet in those days.It would be a thrill to be able to time travel back to those days and experience a hunt. cheers
