FOLSOM, N.M. - The Folsom Falls fishing easement on the Dry Cimarron River closed temporarily as of Dec. 31, 2002, pending negotiation of a new lease with the landowner.
"We are in the process of trying to renegotiate a new lease and we're meeting with the lawyer next week," said Bill Hays, Northeast Area chief of operations. "As of now the area is closed and we're trying to get it reopened."
The Department has leased the 1.5-mile stretch of the river from a private landowner since 1988. The fishing easement is located five miles north of Folsom on N.M. 456 and is stocked with rainbow trout.
