After the 2 years of hunting, I finally got my first Hog. I took a trip out to Texas this past week to look at real estate, and I figured since I was out there I would squeeze in a hunt. And it was a sucess. WhOOO HOOOO!!!! So stoked! Not only did I see these guys...but I seen a bunch running across some fields, but it was on private property. Lots of Turkey and Dove too....Texas ROCKS!

Very nice! Congrats. So are you moving to TX? I liked San Marcos when I was there. Whereabouts in the state did you shoot those suckers?

Thanks Guys. Going back in July to put an offer on a house in Abilene area, I fell in love with Texas. And they do not have so much gun restrictions :) I went hunting down in The Cross Plains area. The rifle is Browning BLR .300 Win Mag. with Leupold scope......Now that I broke it in, now its time to go find those illusive San Diego pigs...
Todd

Goo job.
Texas rocks, doesn't it? Good looking hogs and congrats!
Life's short . . . Hunt hard
Why tip-toe quietly through life, only to arrive safely at death ?
Texas is good for hunting and the people are great.

Nice work Todd! Couple of ugly S.O.B.'s you got there. Sounds like you got the itch to move out to Texas. Abilene ain't a bad place to settle. I have friends that have a place right on Lake Abilene. First place I ever saw an alligator gar. If you move there, you'll love it. Half my family has made the move and settled in parts near Allen and Plano....Good luck brother on those elusive S.D. hogs...

A Sunday school teacher asked, "Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he was on the Ark ?"
"No," replied Johnny. "How could he, with just two worms."
Thanks again guys....I'm back home in Temecula and now the real work begins, all the butchering. Not compliaing at all....in fact I have a grin from ear to ear :) So stoked....would rather be doing this than watching hunting shows on TV. :)

Very nice, my first pigs were taken in Texas as well, great job!!
WTG Chef . I think the group I've been tracking in CNF got trapped and whacked near Henshaw a couple months back . Hope they didn't get the whole Henshaw/ Palomar sounder ! Good job !
My wife says if I go hunting one more time she's gonna leave me. Gosh , I'm gonna miss her .....
There are old hunters . There are bold hunters. There are no old, bold hunters.....
The worst day in the field is better than the best day at work.....
Texas, the Greatest Country in the Union. Nice hogs too.
Ok.....All of you who are talking about how great the huntings and the Texans are, I really wonder if you have experienced the way of living and the hunting as a Texan. I recently relocated to Fort Worth, TX (two weeks ago) for a job. So far I got a bad introduction to TX. On the drive to TX starting from the New Mexico border to Fort Worth, there are signs and billboards along the freeway advising people how good Texans are. My third day in TX, I parked my truck in a park parking lot leaving the window open down about 1". I took a short 20 min. walk in the park and came back to discovered that some a-hole had got into my truck and took my GPS and my camo 12x50 Bushnell binocular. Now I'm really thinking twice about those signs and billboards along the freeway because 25+ years in CA and I've only got my trucks broken into twice. Only 3 days in TX and already got a someone digging into my truck.
Now for the hunting part. TX is 94% private land. That leaves 6% public land for the people who do not have access to private land to hunt. If you live here and want to go hunting every other weekend during season, that means $$ for tresspass or guided hunt +gas, food, and other expenses. The cost of a hunt on private land may be cheaper than everywhere else in the country, but the bills adds up if you want to hunt every weekend. If you depend on public lands for hunting, compare the amount of public lands in CA to TX. I know lots of people complained about how crowded CA public lands get during hunting season, imagine how much more crowded the 6% public lands in TX will get. Now many out of staters comes to hunt TX once in a blue moon and talks about how good the hunt was. Well of course they got the high end amenity of a hunt operation with all the money they spend. Ok enough of my rant.
Nice hogs ChefTodd, sorry for highjacking your thread.
Thats Ft Worth for ya.
ChefTodd,
Congrats on ###the wild pig. ###Very cool. ###Given your screen name I assume you do a fair amount of cooking. ###Post a pic of one of your upcoming pig dishes and let us know how that wild free range organic tastes paired with some other fine side dishes. ###
Not a bad idea... would you need a tag for the would-be-thieves? How much would a tag cost?![]()
THE WORST DAY OF HUNTING OR FISHING IS BETTER THAN THE BEST DAY AT WORK
First off,
Nice hogs. One of these days I'm going to take enough Leave to go and get some Texas hogs for myself.
Next,
You can't blame a few a-holes on the entire state. We have plenty of them here in Ca too. You just haven't met them yet. I also have to ask it you left the GPS and binos out in plain view?
I have two small pillows in the back seat. The bino was under the pillows. GPS was in glove box. Both not in plain view from outside. An un-open bag of dorito chips was in plain view on the passenger seat and a fishing tackle box full of fishing gear worth about $200 on the floor of the passenger seat. I was on the way back from fishing at a lake. Couldn't hide the tackle box. The a-hole opened the tackle box but didn't take anything out of there. He took the bag of doritos, the GPS, and the bino.
Not blaming the whole state for one a-hole. Being in TX only three days and got an a-hole digging in my truck vs. 25+ years in CA and had only two a-hole dug in my truck. That number is a big difference and got me curious of how many of them are in TX. Or it could be that I'm new in this state and I could have wonder onto an east LA or Oakland part of TX.
