Howdy All,
Now that the young bunnies are a little bigger we decided to go out to give jack a run for their money.Along with Bert and his JRT, I had the 3 Salukis, Aaba, Neezer & Jazz along with Gypsy the GSP. We saw a lot of jacks in the distance but nothing close for most of the walk. We were walking on a road with open field to the right. Aaba was on the road about 100 yards ahead and Neezer was in the field about half that distance when all of a sudden Aaba breaks into a run, jack had come up right in front of him and was heading across the field on another road. Neezer took up the flank and tried to cut the angle but came up short and now the tail chase was on. Strong jack kept his lead as he ran for a while then cut into the heavy brush for his escape. The run lasted about 45 seconds. We gathered up dogs and were standing on Saluki hill just looking around and planning our next move when Bert asks "What the hell is that?" I turn around to look in the field and see something running, up go the binos. Fox! Neezer being ever alert knew something was up from our tone of voice and he caught sight of the furry tailed critter and the chase was on. Neezer was closing ground quickly and got in behind the fox about 30'. Fox started a slow ark to his right so he could head for the heavy stuff. Neezer cut the angle to pull up about 5' behind and that is the distance he stayed. Aaba came running up from a ways back but when he got just behind Neezer that is where he stayed. I guess the dogs just wanted to run the little guy and not tangle with him. All 3 went into the heavy stuff and ran around in there for a while. This run I timed at 1 minute 30 seconds. I had started the stopwatch a little late so it may have been 10-15 seconds longer. Good runs for the day.
