Default 2 hogs down in Parkfield Memorial weekend

We got access to 1400 private acres in Parkfield, Ca. No one hunts this property and got 2 hogs this weekend. Try and stay with me here...... my buddies sisters fiances family owns this working cattle ranch and no one in the family hunts it. We asked for permission and they said anytime. SCORE!!! 1400 private acres in Ca. to hunt??? It has a ton of hogs on it too. On to the story...
Got camp set up on Fri evening and went out scouting, saw a few hogs a couple ridges over so we knew where we would start the next morning. We got set up the next morning and had a pack of hogs come over a ridge right in front of me, maybe 10 yds. The lead hog was facing me so I had no shot with my bow. Once he figured me out they were gone in a flash. About an hour later same thing but they winded us way before we could get a shot. We figured we had them patterned and would be up there on Sunday morning even earlier. Well they were there earlier and further down the ridge then the day before. We put a stalk on them but the damn wind got us again. Time was winding down so we went to the rifles. We found a bed and could only see one pig, my buddy took a shot and missed low at 150 yds. 8 pigs came boiling out of this bed. The first 2 were gone, the rest kinda hung out. My buddy got a shot at 185 yds and dropped one and I got a shot at 150 yds. 2 nice 140 lb sows. They even rolled to the bottom of the hill for us. Should eat real good!! I can't wait to go back and get another. Next time I'm looking for a nice boar. Sorry for the long story but I hope you all enjoyed it!!

Congratulations on the hogs, and the access; it's a previlage, so take care of the previlage well.

Just one piece of advice, DFG is pretty active there, so keep written permission on you at all times; okay, one more piece of advice, enjoy it!

That is good advice, I didn't think about the written permission part. The family lives on the property but it would be easier to just have a little note in my pack. Thanks

I keep hearing about and seeing photos of successful Parkfield hunts. Haven't gotten there yet but I guess it's mostly private land so yes, you scored!!! I woulf give anything to be 10 yards from a hog w/ a bow. That's serious fun! Congratulations...you hit the lottery!
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000. The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

Default Parkfield has a wild hog problem.

Parkfield has a wild hog problem.
Parkfield, CA, population 36 according to the sign at the entrance of town, has a cool little park in the center of town with a fountain built from plumbing/piping/mechanical stuff from the Parkfield Waterworks. They also have a special heavy duty fence around the park with a serious gate next to which stands this sign. Yeah, this town has some hogs around. As for antelope, these are "the same" antelope that you see on Jack Ranch that borders Parkfield on the south. I was told by the folks at Jack Ranch that the antelope population is quite a bit down from what it used to be due to predation and other factors. They do NOT hunt them on Jack Ranch.

OK so no one offered yet so I will take the bullet. If you need a secretary on the next hunt I will go with you and keep written permission slips and document the entire hunt. No really I insist. It is the least we can do to help out.

Good hunt and congrats. PM anytime you need the secretary skills on a hunt.

Wildlife is public property, even if it's on private lands; as such, yes you need a tag or depredation permit to legally take any game species.

I think he meant do you have to draw or are landowners given tags i.e. landowner sponsor tags
