    Default Lake county sow down

Took a walk around the ranch this morning starting around dawn. Didn't see a creature moving for about an hour and my expectations were pretty low. Around 6:30 I'm walking along a road at the back of the property where there's a spring just after a little rise, a place I've told myself upteen times that sooner or later I'd come over the rise and there would be a nice pig right there. Well that's what happened - a big black sow was standing right in the middle of the road where it's still mushy, perfectly broadside and totally oblivious, no more than 50 feet in front of me. Not much of a drop over that distance with a .270!

She was just at 200 lbs on the hoof, 140 dressed out. Nice and fat, will be a good eater.

The hair is missing from her side as I dragged her with my quad about a mile. Took almost throwing my back out a few times hefting pigs onto the quad before the idea of just dragging them dawned on me!Sow 5-19-12.JPG

Sounds like what you need is something you can tie to the quad for the hog to ride. Kind of like a sling travois. Or a trailer.
Well, there was a bump, a thump, a cloud of dust, and the smell of turnips wafting through the air...

Way to go I was near Berryessa hunting this morning and didn't see nearly the lush green grass you do in that picture. Did see one hog but he made it too the ranch next door only to get shot by the rancher

A peek a boo pig. Nice shooting bisonic. One time a friend helped me drag out a deer in MO with his quad. I wanted the hide and I thought it would be okay sliding along on the oak leaves but it was bald when we got to the truck.
