...something about it not being legal to use a scent lure for deer hunting. I looked in the Regs and found nothing but I'm pretty sure it's in there someplace.
Help?

Scents are legal in CA for deer. If it's edible like some of the deer lures out there it's considered bait and it's a no go.

I have used water i don't know if the deer are attracted to it or not, but when i am going to be sitting in one spot for a wile i bring 2 extra bottles of water to sprinkle all around me on the trees and bushes. Maybe some day a nice buck will catch wind of some fresh water on a hot day:)
I am not sure about legal matters, but wouldn't depend on just any internet response to find the real law. Maybe you should check Ted Nugent's web site to get the real scoop.![]()

Scents are legal but do they work? I've used them but I'm not so sure they're efffective. We're not permitted to hunt the rutt so estris may not attract a buck and may spook them since it's out of the ordinary. Buck urine may get another bucks attention but I haven't sen it where I hunt. I've not used them in years but I'm reconsidering. It's something interesting to ponder.
I have not used them and really had not given it much thought because I don't know enough yet about deer hunting since I've not actually gone hunting for anything yet. The reason I asked is that a friend of mine and I were having a conversation about this. He said they were legal and why not increase your hunting chances. I said not legal. From the way it looks we were both half right/half wrong.
