IF you are driving and using a cellphone then your first two answers are completely incorrect. Driving and texting/using cellphone then you are both endangering others and breaking the law. As for #3, no one, other than the government, is getting in your business. You posted your business on a website. I just hope you can live with yourself if, God forbid, you actually hurt someone. Care a little more about other people.

If there is nobody on the road, how am I endangering others?
You need to get off your high horse named California and realize that the rest of the world has internet too. Not everything on the internet is about CA.
Good luck to you. I'm out.

The libertarian in me hates the fact that the government continues to pass laws upon laws every year which regardless of your belief further restricts the freedoms of the citizens. Combine that with the "fees" which are essentially unregulated taxes imposed upon the people which circumvent the legal process imposed to pass new taxes make me angry. Now these fees are being used to punish errr enforce safety.
I agree talking can be dangerous while in the car however so are many of the activities I engage in (shooting, dog training, drinking beer, mowing my lawn, etc.) and I do not want to be subjected to a utopia created by the government.
I refuse to be in a car with anyone that is stupid enough to talk on a cell phone and drive! Its karma, what goes around, comes around! They will get their just dues!
I've been lucky on not owning a cell phone, hopefully I'll never have one....I like my privacy...
As for fines,I say $1000.00 for the first offence, make them learn fast!!!

Driving is a privilege and NOT a right. So obey the law or don't drive.
Mr. Luckypants Plain and simple.
I just have a few things to add to this discussion.
I want to point out that folks make fun of me driving at or just under the speed limit. Here in southern california, it looks to me like people follow the cell phone law just about equally as well as they follow the speed limit laws.
In other words, the majority of the people or very close to the majority are breaking the law on a regular basis. I am not making this up. I do have a hands free device, but I think that many folks don't know what a hands free device is or how to use it within the law. Just as there is just about always someone going past me well above the speed limit. I don't know what the correct answer for this might be. There are already laws against distracted driving in almost every location. Do we need to penalize those who drive under the speed limit while being passed by the speeders who are on the phone? Some of you people might ask yourself if you are speeding when having to slow for those law breaking phone users?? Our laws make many law breakers.
between the speed laws and the cell laws, there are a large number of law breakers. It is against the law to drive while distracted already.
Just wanted to say that a couple of nights ago I couldnt sleep and pulled out my Iphone to check Jesse's. Read this post and realized that I am distracted a lot with my iphone while driving. kinda gave myself an electric shock and told myself to stop doing that. I have been "clean" ever since. Thanks to whoever started this.

We go to a lot of TC calls where the common dominator is the cell phone. Put it the hell down and wait a few extra minutes to return the call till you can pull over safely...

Well Easy, is the cell phone a common dominator because it causes accidents, or is it a common dominator because everyone has one? I have driven a fire engine to hundreds of calls for services. Usually I was driving well over the posted speed limit and carrying hundreds of gallons of water which made it impossible to stop very quickly. Our engine had one radio for fire/ambulance dispatch, and another radio for the local police department. On most of my calls I used both radios while driving(often changing channels), and I never had an accident.

People that drink and drive think they are safe also. Many of them have not had accidents so it must be ok. Do you have to take your eyes of the road to punch in 7 numbers on a radio ? Do you read your last text from a radio ?

CS, Sounds like we agree on most of the problem. I don't even have a cell phone.

My kids ( that are adults ) tell me I need one. They say I should have one when I'm hunting, fishing or out of town on vacation so they can get ahold of me. I tell them if I'm hunting, fishing or on vacation I don't want to be gotten ahold of. That people lived a lomg time without phones and even longer without cell phones.
