    Default Recommendations on Hog Guides

A buddy wants to go on his first hog hunt. It's been a while since I last went hogging. I'm looking for recommendations and contact info on reliable honest effective hog guides from you guys. Thanks.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

I thought Deedy at Bryson/Hysperia used to be a sponser and she has nice quarters and lots of ranches she guides on with crops and loads of pigs.
Almost any place out of Parkfield (except larry hamilton) is a good bet, Jack Ranch, Varian Ranch, Hearst Ranch...

I have sent you an email with an extensive list with annotations about quite a few Outfitters in Central CA. I also gave you a number to call me for further details.

I sent you the annotated list of guides I know or have talked to. I don't post it as it contains some of my comments and I dont' want to get into a discussion of my opinions of persons/personalities on this forum. If you find it useful, just thank me, give me any feedback on the guide so I can keep informed and post up the story of your hunting so we can all enjoy it vicariously.

Dave and Perry are real good at JFH. The only issue for the guy who started the thread is they are in N. Cal and he was looking for Central I believe.

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000. The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

I just finished a hunt with David Rossi in San Ardo CA. The guy has his own camp mground which is private, meaning he doesn't book any other groups once you lock him in. He has clean toilet and shower facilities. There are pits to build a fire, gas lights (operate on Coleman fuel), and targets for pistol or rifle practice. He does a combo of jeep, stalking, tree stand. He really works hard and is patient. It was my first hog hunt but hopefully not my last. He is also a great teacher and didn't mind sharing knowledge. This is his site http://panchoricocreekranch.com/ Hope this helps.

Looked at the site. What was your price? Some of the intel is old (turkey stuff talks about 2008 as last season) so I'm just wondering if the pricing listed (good price) on the web site is current.

    Thanks

Hi, I paid 500.00 because a buddy went with me. However a single hunter is 600.00 I asked him about turkey hunting and he said it is 450 for a single and 350.00 each for two. Even though the 450.00 seems steep, the free campsite is worth the extra hundred, esp since the nearest town is 12 miles away for a motel.

Wow...$500.00 to $700.00 (plus guide tip) for a pig that is damaging the ranch anyway. Amazing. Right next door vineyards are paying ADC guys to shoot hogs. Time for me to start cold calling.

I sent it the other day but it bounced. Not sure what email you'd given me in PM as I recall. I've sent it again and if you don't have it by 10 am today, just email me directly at asaxon@mednet.ucla.edu

Very good reading these listings, I hope people will continue to note their experiences.
Trying to search in the Hunting & Giuide's reviews isn't working out well for me as I can't seem to be able narrow it down to California & Hogs.
    Am I missing something?

JESSE: I agree that it is not easy to search the Hunting/Guide services by location and then you appear to have to have a name to search by. It would be nice if there was a search tool where you could do by location (e.g. key word "central california" or "northern CA".) I tried sorting by zip code but that didnt' seem to work for me either. Most interest appears to be in CA hunting so that might be something to break out if it is easy to do and there would be more use of/access to the Guide information.

eoats: That is why I started keeping my own list of guides in Central CA - simplicity. They are all in JHO but hard to dig out if you don't know about them already. I'd be happy to send my annotated list to you if you want. Just send me an email.

Hey asaxon can you send me the list too? I have a couple new hunters that wants to go hog hunting but I would prefer them to experience private land before going to to public land with me. Thanks!

I am happy to send the list I have made up to you or anyone who is interested. However, send me an email as the list is too long to put in a PM on JHO. My email is - asaxon@mednet.ucla.edu.

Second, the list has some annotation of my personal views (I have taken the choicest comments or any personal information about the guides/families out) so I 'd appreciate it that it does not get "posted". I'm not trying to open a debate of the pros/cons of various guides. My opinion is simply my opinion and I make no representations otherwise.

Send me that email and I'll send it along.

If your email is b*m*h@ and you sent me an email request for the hog list, your spam blocker will not let me send you the message. I have tried but the blocker also will not process my request to be approved - I get an "error" message. I have tried several time and I give up....

Asaxon - I received your email. Very Very helpful and generous of you.

I just gave you an official "Thanks." That's a very cool feature of this site that I haven't seen on others. I need to go back to my first post in the mentors section and throw a few more out to a couple of people who were more than helpful with some good advise for a beginer like myself

Be interested to see his success rate. MANY years ago, a we had a member on here who was running hog hunts on a ranch, just outside of Fresno. He did very well, only problem was he didn't have his guide license and was popped by DFG for that and a few other violations.
