Default zone tags and random drawing tag fundraising tags question

well whats the deal with this under apllication restrictions you may only submit one application for each species any multiple applications for same species will be rejected from the drawing .
so under thier rules as thier written you can only apply for a zone tag or a fundraiser tag not both as it would be in violation of submitting two drawing applications for same species right .
    SO HEY DFG WHAT HECK

I used my first Deer for my premium choice i bought 3 fundraiser tags and if i choose i can get my second deer for a unrestricted zone right now or wait until August 2 and see if i can get a restricted zone.

You can only apply for one premium draw tag(per person or party), then using your second tag for a non draw tag which you wil probably get. And like slant says, you can wait for the report on unsold tags before you buy your second tag.
I always buy two tags, the first I use toward one of the next to impossible to draw tags which is my first choice( G3, G39, etc), then I put a very good second choice(any X zone) and then a third choice of a non draw tag which I always get(something like one of the Ds or Bs). Then on the second tag I get an AO tag which I always get and allows hunting in a myriad of zones including my local zone which is open in July...

If you read the Big Game Hunting Digest book, it says that fundraiser tags don't count. Also, if you read the FAQ at the back, it answers and addresses that question.
If you know what you are doing, you're not learning anything.

If you have three premium or restricted choices for your fist tag but don't get drawn, why would you bother putting in for a non-draw tag for your third choice? You can just get that over the counter if you don't get drawn for one of your 1st 3 choices. Am I wrong on this? Let me know. Maybe I screwed up in the past without realizing it.

What do you mean? So if you dont draw on any of your 3 choices than what tag will they send you??? You always put a 3rd choice of something you will get for sure get like an AO or other unrestricted tags.

I think thats dchunters point. If you dont get drawn on your 3 premium choices they don't send you any tags and then you can go after the draw and either buy a leftover premium tag or AO / unrestricted tag over the counter.
    Have fun out there.

My buddy pick's G3/X12/A17 i have told him if you pick X12 for your second choice you ain't going to get it that sucker fills quick maybe he would have a chance when the random draw comes around, but to pick 3 prem choices i don't do it. Restricted yes.

IMHO, read the big game hunters booklet carefully and look at the drawing odds for pick one thru three, also check the numbers of points needed to draw vs the random draw aspect. First and second choices really matter, but a third choice is a too far of a long shot to be consdered. The tags go to the top point holders then the remainder of the draw is random.
IMHO, I have always put down my two top picks (very hard to draw tags) and have always gotten drawn for my third choice ( a less difficult draw usually one of the Ds or Bs)and I have gotten a point because I did not draw my first or second choice yet got a very good tag in areas with great bucks. These low percentage but very high quality tags (G38, G3, G39 or any late season hunt)are on par with many out of state premium tags which I have drawn with far fewer points. It is getting harder and harder to draw in my home state. I have max points for both elk and deer yet never seem to draw the coveted tags. In fact in more that 30 years of applying I have never drawn an elk tag locally.
Most other states I draw at least every other year for a great tag and once every five years for a really great tag...
And why waste all my points on a lesser X zone or a non premium tag. I would rather get the points and try for the gold, then hunt a place I know well and still have a good hunt, yet knowing someday I will draw one of the coveted late season tags.

    Code3run,
If you only put in for three premium, very hard to draw for zones and do not get drawn, you get a point. Then yes you can apply for another non premium zone, but you still only get one point and no tag first time around. 1st and 2nd picks rank much higher that a third choice. And most people do not put in for easy to draw tags on the first go round.

Ok so if you dont draw any of your 3 hunt choices on your first tag, Yes you get a point, but can you still try for another hunt choice on that first deer tag or do you just get a point?
