A good buddy of mine called in a bird for his girlfriends son yesterday and they were able to take what I consider to be a once in a lifetime bird. This true trophy bird that had 4 beards! A 10" a 5" and two 2" beards. If ever there was a bird I would have mounted this was it. If I can get the photo off of my phone I will try to post it. Congratulations to Rouben and friend!
Have fun out there.
If it is because you have an older phone, you can picture message it to me and I can upload it. PM me for my number if so.
a friend of mine got a quadruple bearded bird this year too! his had 11 1/2", 9", 7", 7". he said the spurs measured at 1 1/2", and weighed 22 lbs! monster bird!
I have an older Blackberry but for some reason I can't e-mail this photo to myself. Let's give it a try Daveyboy. PM me your #
Have fun out there.
I was communicating to an Outfitter about going hunting for Gould's Turkey in Mexico next year and he told me they killed a Gould's Turkey with 4 beards and another with 8 beards this year. I did a quick check on line and the most I could find was a turkey with 7 beards.
Is this multi-bearded phenomenon found in Rio Grande, Merriams, Osceola and Syvestris?
Is it more common in one subspecies than another?
How many beards have you reliably heard of as the most on a wild turkey?

There's got to be a wildlife biologist on this site that can answer these questions. The most I have ever heard of was this four bearded Marriam. Two years ago a friend of mine shot a multi colored bearded bird that had three distinctly different colors and several sources attributed this to nutrition in the tree subsequent years of the birds life. It was a very unique looking bird so my friend had it mounted, I hope these guys do the same with this one.
Have fun out there.
