Default Three recent trips to SAR. Lots of fish...

Well, the Saturday after last, I got my truck back from the shop and wanted to nail some fish. II grabbed the fly rod and headed up the mountain. I fished the area below Seven Oaks, below the last bridge. I was running a flashback nymph dropper 18" off a #12 stimulator indicator. Managed about 15 browns/rainbows in two hours, mostly on the nymph, with a couple rising to the dry. The fish were holding in runs and tail outs, with a couple feeding in the pockets. Pretty steady action for the two hours I was there. All wild fish up to 12" or so. All released.

When I got home, one of my hunting buddies who is starting to get interested in fishing called me up and wanted to head out on Sunday and fish a river. This was his first time stream fishing. So I broke out the ultralight and took him up to the SAR interpretive area to teach him how to read the water and put him on some stockers. After about 30 minutes of training, he hooked into his first fish. We steadily caught fish throughout the day. He turned loose a couple of smaller models. I released at least 20 fish as well. We each left with a limit of the 12" models.

Then last weekend, my brother came over for my birthday. I told him to bring his fly rod, he he. We headed up to Seven Oaks and worked the area below the campground. It was epic wide open action on dries and nymphs. In some pools we were catching a fish every cast. My bro caught his first dry fly fish as well. We lost count and kept the larger models for dinner. Limits as usual.

Anyways, the river is wide open right now, and they are munching most patterns. Here's some fish porn:

Hey nice catch... can never complain about a 15 fish day. Small but really healthy wild fish. Congrats again.

Nice fish. Looks like you had a good time. I am going to be up that way later this month so it looks like I better get my license. So glad to see that you let all those wild Browns go and only kept the stockers. That's a great way to keep that fishery healthy. Thanks again for the pics.

Thanks, guys. K_Rad, SAR = Santa Ana River. The pics were just quick cell phone shots, lol. My phone takes such good pics that I leave the camera at home anymore, unless I need a flash of course.
