DFG Biologist?

Sorry for the repost but I am not sure what section to place this question in

So I have been watching tons of hunting shows over the years. One of my favs is on your own adventures. It seems like in the beginning of every show he spends some time talking about getting out the topo maps and breaking down unfamiliar areas, with information he gathers from different feild biologist. My question is who are these biologist that he is able to get ahold of and how to we get in touch with the ones in California?

From my efforts, those guys don't want to talk to us. I wanted info on a particular bird species and kept calling and writing the states "expert". Finally I contacted a member of this board who is the head of DFG wildlife (Hi Dr. Loft!) and finally got somewhat of an answer. Not the answer I was looking for, and I personally think the only reason for the ANY answer was Dr. Loft's involvement.
