Default Turkey or Bobcat? I chose turkey

I took a last minute trip up to central Cailfornia yesterday evening for a Sunday morning turkey hunt. Got into the woods at around 4:30 set up and started calling at 5:15 when I heard the first gobbles. Within 15 min. I had two bobcats come in to check out my decoys, they were within 15 feet of me and with a tag in my pocket it was difficult to pass on the shot but I did knowing I had a bird working it's way in. After two hours of back and forth calling with this bird he finally poked his head up at 30 yards. I could tell he knew something wasn't right because he started clucking so I wasted no time in pulling the trigger. First bird of the season, only a jake but I couldn't be happier. Good one Solus! I knew there was a reason I didn't shoot. Took the tag out of my wallet. Thanks! It was so cool to see the bobcats that up close though.

My pops shot a bird last year off a forest service road and it tumbled down the hill a bit, so he walked back to the truck and put the gun away and when he got to where the bird was it was gone he looked down the hill 40 yards and a bob cat had it and ran away with it.

Not sure the cats were still nearby but I wasted no time running down my bird. He flopped down a ravine and ended up 20 yds from my vehicle.
    Have fun out there.

Good job on the wild yard bird Cjack.......I think bobcat opens up around the second week of October. Sounds to me like you need to head back next fall for some unfinished business. I finished up a bobcat pelt last weekend. I had all good intentions of bringing it up and hanging it at the cabin....Wrong....My wife took one look at it and it now hangs next to one of my better coyote skins in the dining room.

A Sunday school teacher asked, "Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he was on the Ark ?"
"No," replied Johnny. "How could he, with just two worms."

Nice job cjack. I've had coyotes in my decoys twice in the last three years. My nephew was taking his 9 YO junior out and had a coyote run in and hit a decoy this year.
Think me not unkind and rude,

That I walk alone through grove and glen.

I go to seek the God of the wood,

And fetch His word to men.

Thanks inchr48! It is such a rush to be able to observe wildlife that upclose in there element without them knowing. For that reason this will be a hunt I will never forget. It truly is those unexpected moments that I enjoy the most while out doing what I love.

Good call on the bird instead of Mr. Bob. Taking critters out of season can be very expensive from what I hear. Bob season ended in February with a tag.
